going to germany for a few days. had phone unlocked. don't think i will get local sim as not going to use phone all that much. so i can pay vzw .99 per minute for the 10-20 min i will use phone.
however, i know that data is hugely expensive intl. I get like 80 emails a day, so the meter will just be ticking.
Is there a way to set data to off and leave voice and text?
Also, if no data, will gps work. i thought agps needs to download info to get fix.
Install APN on/off , and when in Germany turn it to off.
You will have SMS/MMS and Voice, but not data.
You don't need data, except for emails or online apps. Use Wifi instead.
GPS works , and complete if used with offline maps, as Sygic, Ndrive, Papago ,etc..
Alternatively, if you don't want to install a separate app, you can just turn data off in the settings.
AGPS helps to speed up the process of getting a solid GPS lock and aids in increasing accuracy. But if you have offline maps installed on your phone, like reimer said, the GPS itself will still function just fine. It might take longer to get a lock and an accurate position, but it will work.
