Amen to that WorldIRC. I left for Koodo and haven't had any text issues or call issues in the first week (granted it's just one week) but I was with Rogers for over 6 years and in that time I saw the network quality go from great, to good, to inconsistent.

Yes, I had to bite on the $500 ECF, but when text messages show up hours late, have random weird-*** timestamps (not phone related as I switched to 2 different phones during a 1 month span) that are inconsistent when the texts are actually received... that's just unacceptable. Also unacceptable was the number of dropped calls I experienced with Rogers. Not to mention the dropped calls WHILE ON 611 WITH ROGERS.

I wasn't paying >$70/mo for that kind of service. Reminds me of when I switched from Rogers Cable before they left BC. Had 3 months of dialup speeds before I got fed up and left for DSL. Always the same runaround, always the same nonsense about "we're working on improving our service" spouted to the customer.

Am I bitter? Possibly, but I wouldn't have reason to be if I just received a good, consistent service for what I was paying for.

I noticed a lot of whocalled text recently tech support gives me the normal torture responses. Restore your phone, then turn of 3G. What is the point of having a smartphone without 3G.

But are you really that happy? I mean, how much time have you really spent on the new network?

Not saying that the Bellus network isn't better, but you just recently switched right?

I've been using a Bell HSPA device for nearly a year now as a secondary/work device before giving up my Rogers phone and making the Bell line my primary about a week or so ago. In my common travels (various parts of the GTA, Toronto, Bolton, Mississauga, Richmond Hill - indoors, outdoors, basements, etc.), I've found the Bell/Telus network to be very very robust and reliable...I've yet to drop a call, experience a "call failed" message when dialing out, or be without service...the only time this ever happened was when I was testing the Bell/Telus HSPA network during their first week of launching service, and it only happened 2 or 3 times. And the signal...mad seeg! From my own experience, they seem to have much larger cell sites with their antennae appearing to have a much much wider coverage radius. When I was with Rogers, I'd have several dropped calls every week when finding myself in the same locations. Just my feedback/opinion.

FYI, there is now a Rogers site on the roof of lab8/lab9 at the Nortel campus. Was put in place for Ericsson last year.

Last year I used to find my Rogers Edge comparable to my Gfs bell 3G (both with Iphone)

now her 3G is still slow but my edge as crapped out to the point I rarely try and use data.

Rogers claimed they are bring 3G here through out 2012 but I plan on jumping ship in March.

I think a big part of the problem is that they have LTE, 3G and Edge. its way to many networks to try and support.

In my experience Rogers HSPDA is much more reliable than UMTS.

I'm using Android 2.3.5 which switches to UMTS whenever data isn't being used to save battery. In one location (Richmond Hill) if it's in UMTS mode, it will go to "No Service" every 30-60 mins. But if I keep it in HSPDA mode (like streaming radio) it will never drop connection.

My signal level in that location is about -110 to -95 in that location.

    monomono,

Hmm... Do you realize HSDPA is an enhancement to data in the UMTS... UMTS Release 5 to be exact? But your observation is intriguing that you can get more consistent data connection in the "mode" of Release 5 but not in Release 99.

I didn't realize that, thanks for the info.

I should have mentioned I'm on Petro Canada, but it's still Rogers (MNC+MCC is 302720). Perhaps Rogers likes de-prioritize idle MVNO users?

All this B.S literally started once they began upgrading their towers to LTE. Everything is ridiculously crap now. I am having to use a early 2000s Samsung flip phone right now because my IPHONE 3G became completely unusable. Could never get a signal in my house or rarely outside unless I was in the complete wide open.
Calls always went directly to voicemail and I started paying $$$$ for the constant missed calls text msgs.

Ridiculous. I'm waiting for the Galaxy Nexus which is why I haven't upgraded phones yet, but based on all this hassle I think I might just go with Bell when it hits in January.
