And the persistent 'cellular data connections are not available during this call' pops up anytime I request a data connection. Apple reps have told me they have only ever heard of that from Verizon and CDMA iPhones. ??

Seems that way, it's just that the iPhone drops all connections, so the status bar displays '5 bars ROGERS (blank)' if it were just dropping to 2G would the E symbol not be shown beside 'ROGERS' ? Even when I'm in a 2G area the phone still displays the E icon alongside ROGERS carrier name.

This happens when you're on GSM / EDGE which was a persistent "issue" I kept having on ROGERS.
all to often id' make a call and it would hand down to GSM to carry that call for capacity reasons was my guess.
The funny thing is that this happened more often then not and using data while on a call is actually happening for me more then it used to.

I need data during most calls if not all. I am expecting a call back from a supervisor regarding the dropped 3G soon. I hope to have my %40 monthly discount reapplied (4 month term expires June 02). I'll let everyone know the outcome
A couple of months ago I lost my iphone4, so I ended up getting the 64GB iphone4s. I haven't read this whole thread but I'm experiencing alot of these issues, never did before. My battery gets drained pretty much within 24hrs to 30hrs with very minimal usage.
Is there a solution for this.....................?
Towers need to be upgrade in Red Deer area, my 40% discount has been extended until August 02/2012. The supervisor reiterated I can port out without ECF. I again told them I want to continue the business relationship I've established since 2005. My next play is to speak with OOP and suspend service until the towers are upgraded to LTE and capacity is increased.
Glad they were able to extend those discounts for you. I'm hoping they're able to resolve your network issues. They ended up doing the same thing for me until it got to a point where they weren't actually doing anything about the network problems and I was fed up with the issues...not even the discounts were enough to make me stay.
I understand, I was recently told by RMO that I can switch my voice plan (currrently grandfathered $50 Unzone Unlimited US/Canada ) and they will eliminate the remaining 16 months on my contract. I might just take that deal, since I have $20 in monthly discounts, I will likely drop everything and pay about $5, month to month. At a later date I may inquire about the great plan they offered me 2 years ago![]()
PS I have a month to month with Telus, $89.25/month. Unlimited Local,Unlimited Nationwide LD,6GB,visual voicemail,PKG 15. It's currently cancelled, but within the 90 day grace period to reactivate. I will make my decision in late September.
Can anyone here set up an interactive map to log poor signal events?
I've been having the same problem with iPhone 3GS on Fido around Montreal.
The display shows bars and 3G until I make a call, then the 3G disappears or goes to E or o. This has been going on for years.
Locations:
1. Turcotte interchange
2. Decarie around Jean-Talon
I called fido customer service a couple of times and they had no reports this happening to anyone else, therefore it must be a problem with my phone or the apps or a temporary problem or whatever is not related to their network.
It would be nice to have a way to let users log these problems but I don't have the know how to set this up. Or does anyone if something like this already exists?
It's not the phone, it's the network. Been having problems with iPhone 3, 3GS, 4 and 4S dropping when I'm at home. The same identical Galaxy S III (T999v) used on WIND, Bell and Rogers at my house; Rogers had the slowest download and drop calls. Any Rogers user, using any phone, that comes to my house will complain that they get weak reception. Why we still get EDGE in any part of the City of Toronto proper is beyond me. We're not in the "boonies".
At my office I barely get Rogers 3G at all when all the other carriers are fine, yes even the little guys Mobilciity and WIND. Any time that I've complained about it Rogers just offers free minutes and unlimited incoming... which is kind of useless. They offered me Rogers to Rogers, but at this point 90% of the people I know on Rogers have already gone elsewhere.
Why am I still with Rogers? The mrs loves her iPhone and stuck on 3 year contract. But when the new iPhone comes out, it's bye bye, onto Bell/Telus.
All comments are my own opinion and do not reflect the views of my employer or affiliated groups.
Robbers is trying to hide the fact their network is ageing, falling apart while Bellus new HSPA is near bullet proof. I've tried 7 different phones anywhere form downtown Toronto to Simcoe county, they all do the same things as described here. Time for a much needed upgrade, too expensive no doubt? Almost as bad as Telus Mike now.
Nah, it's quite simple, they're not going to upgrade HSPA since that is now old technology, they're instead building up their LTE network and that is a superb network.
In comparison to Bell's LTE network, it's definitely faster from my experience.
