Doesn't matter, that's just 1 thread out of dozens across other forums and online post. Obviously theres an issue. And I never said MR had 15 pages, look at my OP, it says here's the link to Apple Support with 15 pages of complaints.
Care to explain how my 3GS downgraded works fine on OS 3 and 4... but reinstalling iOS 5 and WiFi doesn't work? Obviously that points to a software issue, and why it's affect some and not others, no idea. But it's far from a small problem if even the Apple stores said their receiving complaints. I even sent a detailed response to Apple showing how downgrading back works fine for me and a few others who are able to do so (old bootram etc), but with iOS 5 it doesn't work. And not just a 3GS problem since my 4 and others with their 4 have the same issue after iOS 5.
The Apple link works fine for you, since you are logged in with your Apple ID. Log out and try the link.

No it works fine for me logged out, I just checked signing out (it should show as guest for you). Works on my other computer as well not signed it.
here's some recent post, now 17 pages
"I finally upgraded to version 5.0.1. I wish I had read this thread before doing so. I also lost wi-fi."
"Hopefully, it continues to work for you at a distance from your modem or router.
What you are doing is trying to force connection to your wi-fi signal but that won't fix the problem nor should it actually work (for 3GS with iOS 5.0.1) further from your signal source or for any other wi-fi signals (when not quite close).
I have experimented further and using G rather than N in the modem or router setup doesn't help, nor any other changes i have tried with the base settings.
It appears to be a distinct problem with the iPhone software, as bother my PCs have extremely good reception remote from the modem or router. We need to apply pressure on Apple to recognize this problem and provide a timeline for fixing. I have, as many others, registered the problem with Apple. No response. Beginning to think it is time to change to the Android system..."
"zk33, I did this same approach a while ago and it didn't help at all.
How is your wifi signal at 30 feet?
At 10 ft, using the speedtest.net app, i got 15Mbps download speed.
At 20 ft, i got 8Mbps.
At 30 ft, i got 2Mbps for a short time and then signal disappeared.
Has anyone else found an answer? We need to continue to submit complaints to Apple and they neeed to recognize and response to the problem. The longer Apple takes to respond, the more users will move to the Android system."
"it is getting ridiculous!!!
Apple has been warned from day 1 about the wifi problems due to iOS 5 by some HELPFUL customers,
and the 5.0.1 update fixes nothing regarding the wifi!!!!
on this particular issue they've been worst than the worst!!!
reset to factory settings as a non working solution!!
great response to the problem!!!
i am glad i didn't buy the iPad2!!!!"
and some other recent post: "Unfortunately none of the suggestions, including switching off Bluetooth, changing the password, removing the WPA2 Personal wireless security, changing the wireless mode from 802.11n to 802.11a/b/g etc work for me.
The issues do disappear for a short time, perhaps as a result of resetting the network settings and switching off/on the wireless router etc (which I do as a matter of course in addition to the above), but they soon reappear."
" Hi, I am also having these problems too. I have tried to join networks at home and at the workplace and they only become visible when standing within 4-5 feet of the router. I had no problems with previous versions of iOS (before iOS5) and actually no problems when I was using a 3GS with iOS5 so maybe there is a problem with iOS5 and the iPhone 4S working together. However, have tried all the standard stuff like doing a complete reset and also resetting phone settings but the iPhone 4S still can't see any of the WLANs. This needs to be sorted fast as I am assuming people are using a lot of their data allowances in the meantime.
I expect better from Apple to be honest"
This one irks me, complete bs... yes magically all these phones had systematic hardware errors after installing iOS 5 . Myself and a few others have been able to prove that downgrading back shows WiFi to work fine, so that obviously points to a software flaw in iOS 5. If iOS 5 is causing a hardware error then it's their fault and they should be responsible even if the phone is out of warranty. Love to see Apples response to that when you tell them "well how come when I downgrade back to OS 3 or 4 it works fine?"
I have tried everything mentioned to-date (including WPA2/AES and no security) and nothing works.
I then went to the Apple Store and then to the Rogers kiosk. I am midway thru a 3yr 3GS plan.
Apple Store - they took the back off and indicated a hardware error and solution was to buy a refurbished 3GS for approx $200 and a 30 day warranty only. No way.
Rogers kiosk - solution was to buy a new 4S for approx $400 to finish out my contract. NO WAY!
Next step is to 'discuss' with Rogers customer relations.
Wi-fi seems slightly better since then but not reliable outside of 5 feet.
BTW, iPhone owners are in deep do-do after 1yr warranty has passed. Try your best to secure a extended warranty extension from either Apple or your ISP.
And the thread keeps getting more and more complaints. Not sure why some can't see it not logged in as it works fine for me when I log/sign out. I just ordered an SGII the other day as I can't handle not having WiFi on either phone and don't want to stay downgraded back on my 3GS as there are some newer app's etc I like that won't work on earlier versions.
few recent post from that thread
thanks for the link Rysz - saves having to hunt for it!
<sent to apple feedback>
We have purchased 11 ipads (1&2) and 40 iphones (3gs, 4 and 4s)for our organisation. They are well-regarded and cause ourselves in the IT department very few problems.
We have experienced an issue on 4 devices - 3 iphone 4's and 1 3gs where after upgrading to ios5 wifi connectivity was problematic.
specifically:
on connecting to a secured wpa/wpa2 wifi network the ios device showed a spinning wheel rather than a tick. No IP address was obtained, or appeared briefly and then disappeared.
we have tried:
forgetting network
resetting network settings
rebooting
hard resetting
restoring
updating to 5.0.1
rebooting access points
changing key on access points
upgrading airport express and extreme to 4.6
static IP on iOS device
other access point hardware
Granted this is not affecting all hardware, but is significant enough for us to research the issue rather than just obtain hardware replacments (which we have done from our supplier).
It appears a number of other people are experiencing the same issue:
I will happily supply any other information you require for investagting the issue.
Regards,
Chris
update:
another new iphone 4 16gb was delivered today (with 4.3.3) worked OK with wifi, was upgraded to 5.0.1 and the same issue occurred. Returned to supplier as faulty
This happened to me with my new 4S. Couldn't connect, the circle just spins forever. Tried a bunch of the stuff listed above and what fixed it was restarting my router.
Anyone ! Please help me. My iphone 4, 16GB (unlucked version): Wi-Fi is not working. its seems grayed and says No Wifi. I have searched over the internet, but didnt get any solution but 3G is working fine.
I have Reset, Erase all data, Restore, and done 2-3 time like this to get it done as I have seen in the web. But its still not working. Please help.
Wifi is grayed out and it says no wifi next to it. I have tried reseting network settings, removing the sim, rebooting and restoring many times. Still no wifi!
Anyone have similar problems on their GSM iPhone 4?
I too have the same issue:

I am a little confused. My Verizon phone was able to roam on GSM because they used TDMA. Tell it was shutdown. The phone recognizes it as Analog. If PCS has TDMA, It could be technically be used on GSM.

Don't know if this will work for everyone, but I had the problem, then changed my router mode from 802.11g+802.11n to just 802.11g, and the problem "seems" to have gone away . . . i.e., my iOS5 devices have held their WiFi connections for longer than ever before.
Now, I may log back in tomorrow morning and tell you that the Apple gremlins have come back. But, for now, it's working.
Hi guys, I saw posts on 5.1 that just came out, but I have 4 iPhones all on 5.0.1 no problems, Bluetooth was a bit off along with voice control just opening up randomly, not from holding the home button for short hold which is the default setting. I downloaded an HD SBSettings and a blue tooth manager and after they were installed her Bluetooth switch disappeared. I uninstalled the apps and disabled voice control and now Bluetooth is better and voice control disabled is really making her 3GS good but my iPhone 4 was not bothered by voice control but I disabled it anyway and lastly, is it possible you are getting intermittent Internet service? I have old house and had off and on Internet forever and I always blamed my provider but turns out I was using old phone line to the modem and it was not intended to ever carry a consistent signal and once new and dedicated phone line installed never had Internet issues again
