Is Bell saying that their operating costs to offer call display services has increased to the tune of an increase of $1 for subscribers? It's really a rip off for a service that most people view as necessary. I would guess very few people do without call display.

Inflation, nothing more. While the margins are huge already, with inflation how it is, Bell likely needs to maintain their margin : cost of operation ratio.

If you've been getting it for $7 you are lucky. Telus has been charging $8 for a long time now.

I would argue that if you are paying anything over $0 then you are doing a pretty bad job at negotiating your renewals.
    Clearnet Digital PCS

We think everyone should be able to afford a wireless phone. That's why we were the first wireless company in North America to offer pay-by-the-second airtime, and why we don't charge an activation fee. NO scary contract to sign. Immediate national coverage. And a 30-day satisfaction guarantee. Yes, it's finally time to get a wireless phone.

^Bell landline/home phone is a bit different if I'm not mistaken...most of their landline service is CRTC-regulated, isn't it?

Landlines are regulated, but Telus gives Call Display for free with a basic residential line. Same with Shaw. (In the West.)

They don't charge for "touch tone service" either.

tl;dr While Canada in general is screwed by telecom, Eastern Canada gets screwed particularly hard by the Bell/Rogers duopoly compared to other provinces.

suddenly wind/mobi looks a lot more attractive.. asides from the signal strength argument.
