Apple iPhone Micro USB Adapter - where can I get one?
So Apple is the only phone manufacturer to keep forcing a proprietary charger port on consumers. Others all decided to go micro-USB when Europe passed a law, and rather than make different HW for different regions they all just made micro-usb the standard.
Anyway, Apple has semi-complied, so now the iPhones will accept non-apple USB power sources. And, (in Europe only) they have made available a "iPhone Micro USB Adapter." I only see them on the European Apple store sites. Can't find any on eBay, or elsewhere (want OEM only).

Anyone know of anywhere else these can be obtained?
I would love to have a handful of these in my possession.
Apple has been allowing third party USB power sources for years. Maybe ever since third parties started making them. Apple even sells them on their site: http://store.apple.com/us/browse/hom...essories/power Belkin, Mophie, Bell South, Griffin, and so on. Where have you been these past several years?
Anyway, write down the part number (MD099ZM/A) and phone apple and see if they can order one in for you. You can't do it online, so what's the harm in phoning and asking? They won't hunt you down and chop off your hands or anything.
I really don't see what the huge deal is with people pooping themselves over wanting Apple to have Micro USB ports. If you only have an iphone, who the heck cares what plug it has? It's not like every iphone is going to have a different plug (and those of us that have had cell phones over the years not only were forced to endure different plugs with every manufacturer, but if you stuck with the same manufacturer for not that many years you had to endure them switching different plugs), if you have any kind of idevice (iPad, iPod, iPhone) they all use the same plug so while it is proprietary, if you have multiple idevices you still can use one plug for everything, you don't need all these adaptors and numerous cords for all your devices, and seriously, it's not like it's a Nokia or Siemens where only specialized cell phone stores carry the unique cords, you can get them literally anywhere in any town that is big enough to have a department store. You could probably find a knock off 30 pin connector in certain gas stations. They're not only not hard to find, but you get one with every device. I've got two always connected to my computer (one for ipad, one for iphone), I have one in my travel charge kit, I have one in my iPad bag and I have one lying around at my parent's house. I don't even know where they all came from, but they're easy to come by.
I realize third-party items have been available for this reason, that misses the point though. We shouldn't have to buy third-party non-OEM stuff to get this kind of performance. Especially when all the other manufacturers have embraced the intent of the Euro law and consumers have benefited worldwide from that.
Also, trying to use an HTC [OEM] USB power plug-in with a iPhone 3GS, the phone ignored it as a source of power. That same power source works with iPhone 4S -- coincidence?
Think of how much better it is nowadays (versus whit it used to be like) where each manufacturer's phones had different charger ports and would even change the ends every other year. If you had two phones and a Bluetooth headset you would be stuck dragging around multiple power adapters and cords, and run out of available outlets in hotels, etc.
It's all about efficiency and doing what's "right" for the end consumer.
Apple is the only manufacturer that seems to have dragged its heels on this. Even for the Euro market they didn't make the iPhones with a built-in micro-usb port, or simply issue these adapter ends at no additional cost, they are making people buy them on the Apple store for 8 Euros each.
Since they are hiding these items from the non-European Apple Stores this is why I am trying to see if I can get a hold of these OEM adapters by posting here for suggestions. I am surprised I have not seen these on eBay yet.
I'm also trying to get one, called apple, no luck. Looked on ebay and amazon, they only had non-oem versions. I do not mine paying more for the official apple version, just wish they would sell it to us

Group purchase via "UK-friend"?
I'm also interesting in picking up the Apple OEM adapter. Does anyone on the forum have a trusted UK friend willing to make a group purchase for us and ship the whole quantity to Canada for re-distribution to purchasers from the forum?
That's what I would like too. I just wish they [Apple] weren't so secretive about the existence of these things outside Europe. It's be nice to at least have the option to buy them in NA. Oh well.
