I bought the Max and returned it... I'll wait for the ZTE N762. The front camera of the Max was horrible, only 158MB of internal storage. The good thing was 600MHz CPU and 415MB of RAM.. These specs are not on their website. And for the speed; it was ok doing a speedtest 158 of ping and 1.68MB in download and 1.02MB in upload in Longueuil (Montreal south shore).

That upload is a lot faster than Mobi and my Rogers home internet and lightning compared to WIND. hehe. The download seems good. I haven't got a download speed like that from WIND in awhile.

Pretty disappointing to hear the MAX only has 158 MB internal storage. How much does that affect the android experience? My spice not only has limited internal space but android 2.1 wont let you move apps to your sd card natively. I ran out of space on the spice and would have to get a app2sd app for it. But the device is so laggy that i was too frustrated to even bother.

Did it come with a 2 GB microsd at least?

The RAM seems good. Clock speed is probably OK. Same as the Optimus One. Which is apparently decent.

That speed is good. However, the 158MB of internal storage is somewhat pathetic for an Android device.

I'm not sure how many programs one can store/use with only 158 MB. I know that when I had a SE x10 Mini (which has only about 128 MB or 176 MB), I couldn't install all the programs that I wanted/needed before it complained about not having enough memory.
Fido (monthly plan - personal/data):Novatel Wireless MC950D or Nokia CS-18

Rogers (pay as you go - Canadian prepaid): "Fido" LG Nexus-4

Rogers (monthly BIS data plan): Blackberry Q10

Red Pocket Mobile (US prepaid): Sony-Ericsson c510 or Sony-Ericsson w300i

T-Mobile (US prepaid): unlocked Fido iPhone 3GS 32GB or "Fido" Samsung Nexus-S

With Android 2.2 and 2.3, you can actually move apps to a MicroSD card though. But some apps can only be stored internally.

Thing is I never owned a phone with that little internal storage on Android 2.2/2.3 so I don't know what that feels like. Since with Android 2.2/2.3, you can store apps on your MicroSD to compensate (and I'm assuming that UMX MAX has a MicroSD slot and they supply you with a 2 GB microSD card at least. I would hope so anyway). My Nexus S has a bit over 1 GB of internal storage and I have 687 MB used up.

Froyo (Android 2.2) is good enough. But texting on a 2.8" screen must be hell. The screens should at least be 3.5" or they should include a physical qwerty.

The 3.2" screen on the MAX also looks like it may be too small (the ZTE has 3.5". That's a nice size. iPhone size). That phone has so much bezel too. Would it have killed them to add 0.3" more screen? 0.3" actually does make a difference. I can feel the difference between 4" and 4.3".

Public mobile is at dundas square right now! Just played with the max...its a pretty decent phone. Much better than wind's low end androids for sure.

I couldnt check data speed but the 3G logo sure was there...quite amazing thinking last year this time everyone was ready to erect a gravestone for public mobile!

    I tried it as well.

    Review:
-data seemed fast enough (youtube didn't lag) but that could be because everyone's on it
-the staff kept on trying to tell me how it was a great price... then when they noticed i had a Google Nexus S from Wind, they kept saying how Wind is too cheap and they'll go bankrupt soon
-to the staff member's credit, he seemed pretty technical and knew what i meant when I asked whether it's a touch-resistive screen
-i found the MAX hard to use because the screen wasn't very responsive and it felt cheaply made, however it seemed powerful enough to run youtube

Somehow I find it hilarious that the salesman said that WIND is too cheap when he sees you rocking a Nexus S, which blows the UMX MAX out of the water. But I agree with him that the service itself is dirt cheap. If you got a Nexus S $0 down on a Windtab+, you'd end up paying $1,428 + tax for three years ($29/month for first 12 months, $45/month after that) of service and the phone itself (not including roaming and extra fees). Whereas if you went with Public for 3 years, you'd be paying $1,530 + tax ($30/month for first 6 months, $45/month after that) just for the service itself. Not including the $170 + tax for the MAX.

I had bought the Nexus S unsubsidized before they had the Windtab+ thing. So naturally I'm not a happy camper. In effect I'm basically paying for the people who took the phone at $0 down. Which is a very Robellus-like business model. I think people who buy on contract should be paying more than the no-contract folk. Even though I'm able to downgrade my plan after a year and they can't, it still doesn't make up for the lack of subsidy. Say I take away international texting and voicemail from my plan (I can get free voicemail from freephoneline.ca) and save $10/month, $10/month over 24 years is only $240. My phone was $495 at the time.

What is the release date for the ZTE Androids?
25GB Cap? DIY Telnus prepaid/Koodo unlimited EVDO internet (for $10 per 2 months, to keep account "Active"), Max 3Mbps download speed, if you roam on Bell (free), then you get non-NATed IP

mobile files is reopened - Aug 11/2010

why does public mobile use only no-name smartphones that you can't get customer support from the manufacturers for?

Also why does public mobile $99 sales expired on Jan 9/2012, then now "extended" to Jan 15/2012. I thought $99 was supposed to END on Jan 9. I was expecting price to go back up to $150 but it did not

I dunno - dont companies extend their deals all the time? Public is no exception... look at Wind Holiday plan or Rogers and 6GB promotion.

Its misleading, like saying "Clearance item" when the "same item" will be coming in stock a few days later by the truckload.

Is there some way to report this bad sales tactic to the government?
