What to do? - Deactivated / Blacklisted e71 IMEI on Straight Talk

    Greetings,

I purchased a used Straight Talk Nokia e71-2 with a ST sim card. When I called to activate the phone, ST refuses stating that the phone's IMEI has been permanently been deactivated / blacklisted because of the previous owner's excessive "data usage". Thinking that I might have luck a different day, I tried again and got the same result.

Does anyone know what I might be able to do with the phone now? I did some searching and it seems impossible to unlock this phone and flash debranded firmware to it.

I hate to think that the phone is basically useless brick or only good for parts.

    Thanks!

Unless the seller listed the phone for parts only you may be able to get your money back through ebay.

sent from my Straight Talk Samsung Infuse 4G using the Howard Forums app

Try contacting them on Facebook. Explicitly state you bought the phone from someone else on eBay and want to activate it. Do not mention that you called CS and they say its blacklisted. Small chance they might be able to help, although I sense its a goner.

Unfortunately, I got it through craiglist and the seller isn't responding.

Thanks, I'll try that. If I don't get anywhere, I might just try writing the FCC.

Always call and do a IMEI check before craigslist buying

    Awesome info and link.
This may sound like a newb question...
Can someone tell me where the IMEI is located? (Nokia E5 if that matters)
So that I can explain to the current owner where to look for it and have him send it to me so that I can check it.

Dial: *#06# or look under the battery on the label.

    Awesome! Thanks DT.
I asked him if it had been blacklisted, he said "No" but I'd feel better to be able to see it for myself.

It will tell you if the IMEI is clean and not activated but won't tell you if it's been blacklisted in their systems.

Asked him for the IMEI# ran it through howardforums.com and it says "The ESN/MEID/IMEI you provided is not clean for activation."
Does that mean it has been blacklisted?

Will calling the *#06# tell me if it has been blacklisted?

Never trust people on craigslist. They scam people daily. I would always activated it first before handing over the cash.

No, it means it's still tied to an account.

    Pardon my dumbness...
    What does that exactly mean?
Is it going to be useable?

He said it had no minutes on it to test the phone itself.
I would think that if it has no minutes on it then it should be clear/clean, unless I am mistaken.

And how can I find out if it has been blacklisted? (will the *#06# tell me this?)
