So just looking at the Casio site for the Ravine2, it shows a picture of the speaker circled in red! and the captions states : "Loud front stereo speakers
High speaker volume is ideal for indoor or outdoor use and for listening music."
Guess they got that last part wrong.....

I noticed that too and believe this supports the theory that Casio had meant for it to have music player functionality but Verizon persuaded them to go out of their way to eliminate it. In fact, I even suspect that the actual code for the music player exists in the firmware for the device but Casio simply dropped the music selection from the Tunes and Tones menu, simply making it inaccessible.

Anyone ever use Fatwallet to upgrade. I see they offer the Ravine 2 for $49, plus cash back, it kind of looks like Newegg's order form. It is a major saving, from the $129 upgrade fee, but I don't want the account to get all screwed up.

I use Ravine 2 for a week now. It plays music from "my sound" it also has nice option to assign any mp3 as ringtone. However, the absence of the charging cradle is unfortunate.

USB port used for charging and the snap-on cover for it will not last long. This is the biggest problem I see with this phone so far. Speech to text is fun feature but does not work well for me...

Also, it has GSM capability, and place to put SIM cards but I guess it is only locked to Verizon cards so you would pay exorbitant roaming rees when abroad ..

Ok so the million dollar question..... Did they move the microphone? The origina Ravine is a great phone, but unfortunatley you cannot talk to people with it held between your shoulder and ear if you want them to hear you. Is it the same with the new Ravine? From what I can tell they are very very similar except the color screen on the exterior of the 2.

Hahaha very nice. I mean you get used to it, but even after owning it a couple of months I get caught putting my phone on my shoulder and the listener is left in the dark. I can't complain too much, at least the phone has a flashlight, something too many phones lack these days.

    Question Accesories for ravine 2

Does anyone know where you can find any cases or covers for this phone. The only one I can find is like a glove. I was wanting a colorful one. Just wondering if anyone had found some and where you found them at.

The way I was able to turn off EVDO on the Ravine 2 was a little different than posted instructions (link) for previous Gzone models:

    - # # 8 3 7 8 and press send

    - choose "1. Force Mode" and select "CDMA Only" by moving the direction pad down and then press "OK"

    - then either press the "CLR" clear several times to exit the programming menus to return to the home screen or press the red disconnect key to return to the home screen

    Two things.

    First.
The home screen on the Ravine 2, just like the LG VX8700, has a thin horizontal bar at the top and at the bottom of the screen. So I tried a wallpaper from the VX8700 and it appears to fit perfectly on the Ravine 2. The VX8700 wallpaper is 240x274

    Second.
FAUguy has posted about changing the voice quality of a Verizon phone. Here's one of his posts (link) about this topic. In that post, he chose REV 4 to change the voice coder to an older one.

In the Ravine 2's programming menu, I might have found the menu option that will activate REV 4. Or it could instead be an option to activate REV 3.

    - ##8378 and then press send

    - select "2. Change P_REV"

    - there are three options:
    "IS-2000" [default], "IS-95A+TSB74", and "J-STD-008"

When I select "IS-95A+TSB74", then the 1x changes to a D which is the same change that FAUguy reported in his post that I linked. But based on other links I found, "IS-95A+TSB74" might be REV 3 not REV 4.

    http://standardsdocuments.tiaonline.org/tia-tsb74.htm

"TIA TSB74 Support for 14.4 kbps Data Rate and PCS Interaction for Wideband Spread Spectrum Cellular Systems"
    http://www.howardforums.com/showthre...-dropped-calls

"P_Rev 3 is the cdmaOne IS-95A Standard for the original 1993 vintage 2G CDMA systems which included 14.4 kbps data connections

P_Rev 4 is the 2.5G CDMAOne IS-95B standard from 1999 that added 64 kbps packet switched data connections

P_Rev 5 is the 3G CDMA2000 1xRTT standard that went into use around the year 2000

P_Rev 6 is the 3G cdma2000 EV-DO standard for systems currently being released
    "
