Why getting the T989 from Telus, the T-Mo works the same unless....is it possible for u to enable Wifi tethering?, the T-Mo doesn't work here for that unless u pop a T-Mo sim, still I believe at XDA they found a way to make things work using custom roms, I'm just waiting for the white version to come on T-Mo so I can get my hands on 1 of those.

Fenry, the reason why people go to such great legnths to buy these expensive devices is so that we can use it on our $3 data plans. It's a legacy plan that one works on certain phones such as these expensive ones. Generally speaking, if T-mobile sells it, the T-mobile version of that device will 99% not work with our data plan, so we need to buy the same phones that do not have T-mobile logo (as well as have our 3G band)

you must have missed the entire first/original post.
I guess the other reason for getting the T989 from Telus is because I like the look of unbranded phones. The WCDMA 850 / 1700 / 1900 / 2100 , 3G bands don't hurt either....basically a HSPA+ world phone....LTE isn't deployed worldwide yet, but HSPA is.
I want this darned telus phone pretty bad but I am hoping it might drop to under $600 with tax. Right now its about $680 if you price it out on Telus but then I would have to have a family friend buy it and forward it to me.
Fingers crossed I want this phone on tzones so bad.
Can anyone personally confirm that the Galaxy Nexus works on T-Zones / Total Internet? And whether or not you have to buy it from a Canadian retailer to use it, or if the US unlocked retail versions will work?
I'm trying to replace a dying Nexus One (as many others seem to be doing), and would go with the Nexus S, but it seems very difficult to find one that is guaranteed to work and not turn out to be a T-Mobile branded version with a different ROM on it or something. Plus, buying a better phone means maybe I can avoid doing this for a few years longer.
It *seems* like the Galaxy Nexus is totally unbranded and it's on the "Phones with T-Zones Accessibility" list, but it also says "epc.tmobile.com" in the notes and I see elsewhere that APN may no longer work...?
If it weren't $670 I'd just buy it and pop my SIM in and see, but at that price I'd really like some sort of reassurance that it'll actually function for more than a day before I go and buy it...
Quick Update for those who are still following this thread.
Got 2 more phones...
http://www.telusmobility.com/en/ON/htc_amaze_4g/index.shtml Telus HTC Amaze 4G: Works Perfect. Imported it from Canada. Phone is awesome, except if you plan on getting a custom rom on it. You need S-Off in order to flash freely
In a nutshell, S-OFF means that the NAND portion of the device is unlocked and can be written to. The default setting for HTC’s devices is S-ON, which means that neither can you access certain areas of the system nor can you guarantee a permanent root. Furthermore, signature check for firmware images is also ensured by the S-ON flag.

I purchase this one direct from Amazon. You do NOT need a Canadian version of this phone. Any GSM HSPA version will work with our cheap data plans.
However, lack of expandable memory, poor camera quality compared to SG2 and Amaze, HSPA 21 speed limitations (even though you really won't notice unless you live in a HSPA 42 area in which real world speeds are around 28Mbps on the DL) I was at 15Mbps with this phone, these make the SG2 a superior phone.
ICS, extremely high resolution on the screen, and no bloatware are very good pros.
But main point of this thread is that these two phones also work. Out of the three phones, I suggest getting the SG2 and Nexus before the Amaze. The S-Off Nand is a big turn-off.
Thank you Protoman. I have repped you for your efforts. Although we already knew that any international version of the Galaxy Nexus would work, having more confirmation is good. It's interesting that the Amaze 4G works as well although it's a shame that the device has HTC's signature check in place; I hope the XDA dev manages to bypass it!
You got your HTC s710e a little before I did. What are you thinking your next phone may be?
Sent from my HTC Incredible S
Yeah I got mine in March 2011. I was looking at the Galaxy Nexus, Galaxy S II and the Amaze 4G. All 3 are missing features I want. The Galaxy Nexus has an average camera, no sd card slot and no 42+ radio. The Amaze and Galaxy S II have a better camera and the missing features from the Galaxy Nexus, but they don't have an HD screen like the Galaxy Nexus. What phone were you looking at?
In response to the OP, I have always bought phones from outside the US, normally ones that aren't even released here in any format. I know for a fact that t-mobile has no idea what I am doing as every time I call, I ask the rep to tell me what phone I am using, in their system it always shows up as N/A. I am currently using a Nokia N9 and it shows in T-Mobile's system as N/A. I gave up my grandfathered T-Zones plan for a small business account and currently my entire company and family are on this account. I saw no reason to have 4-5 lines per account and having to have 10 different accounts to manage them all, plus now I pay far less than when I was on the 10 accounts otherwise. I have been told my internet gets throttled at 5GB, but I have yet to reach that limit as does anyone that works for me or anyone in my family. I assume your intention is to educate and I fully support this, but the way to truly beat the system is to get a phone that isn't even related to T-Mobile at all. Just my 2cents.

I'm going to hold off until June time, that will be over a year with this phone and I can justify getting a new model.
I am hoping the new HTC Ville will be released, along with a International AWS version (like the HTC Sensation), and I will spring for that. I am pleased with my HTC phones thus far, and I like how thin the Ville is. Wish there was a Canadian AWS Motorola Droid Razr, I like its looks and build, but no AWS love from Moto.
