Yes, I've gotten unlocks for both a Vibrant and a G2 successfully.
For customers with a Prepaid Plan, T-Mobile will provide the SIM Unlock Code upon request to eligible customers, provided the requesting customer has a minimum of 60 days of active service with T-Mobile and either a Prepaid Plan account balance of at least $10.00 or a prior refill within the last 30 days.
They have an unpublished policy (among other published ones) is that you have to use the device on your line at least once within T-Mobile home network, wait a few days, before they will approve it. Other policies you can read on their website.
That unpublished policy is not always enforced. I unlocked a Nokia Nuron after never using it on Tmobile (but buying it from them prepaid). Basically, I unlock a phone every 90 days, which I think is the minimum, and you need to have refilled your account in the last 30 days (since I'm on a monthly plan that's always covered).
I've unlocked two T-Mobile phones and each time the phone had been active about 110 - 120 days, and I had added one airtime card to the phone. I initiated an online chat at T-Mobile.com and requested the subsidy unlock code. You will need the password or PIN number on your account if you've created an online account. It was very easy and straightforward.

Bump. Just a question. I have a T-Mobile prepaid phone line that's in good standing, which I use when I visit the USA. If I bought a T-Mobile tablet and requested an unlock, would they be likely to approve it, or would they reject it based on the fact that my line is for a phone and not a tablet?
