Throwing money away? Why use 3G when you can use your MUCH faster home network when possible?

Honestly even if I had been aware of wifi not being contected I probably still wouldn't have thought twice about the use if unlimited data. I guess my lesson here is to leave wifi enabled.
Why wouldn't you leave Wi-Fi enabled? That's just common sense to begin with.

And 12 GB in a month? You really have no reason to complain. I'm amazed they let you get that far.

Not everyone has *faster* home internet, and not everyone stays at home 100% of the time.

People forget, no need to act like you have some superiority complex over them. In my case, the only AT&T WiFi hotspot's I may ever come across is when I pass through a drive-through or go to an AT&T store. There isn't an abundance of WiFi in the south. Of course, it really shouldn't matter when you're traveling because thats what Mobile Broadband is for.

Except VZW doesn't have a set point. They say they "reserve the right" to throttle heaviest users, when the local cell site is seeing heavy usage. General consensus was approximately 9GB, but VZW has not given a figure and I don't think they intend to. AT&T's policy of apparently varying throttle point based on network load in a given market seems similar in spirit, and to me is sensible. Throttling someone who is "out in the sticks" and almost the only user on their site really doesn't help anyone, throttling in congested markets could ease congestion considerably.

I have grandfathered unlimited, and do still try to use wifi when possible. I don't feel like "I have unlimited so I should use as much as possible." No, wifi is not guaranteed to be faster than cellular data (several access points I've used have a 1.5mbps line backing them up), but it's (almost) always been plenty fast, there's just no reason not too, and I figure people that do that keep speeds higher for when I do use cellular data.

Yes, throwing $$ away… You are paying for data from the cell tower to your phone, instead you use the wifi in your home… That data that you pay for, you are not using which = wasted $$
Why use 3G when you can use your MUCH faster home network when possible?
much faster home network..?? Not everyone has FAST dsl or FAST broadband in their home. Sometimes 3G is faster than a home wifi network… You of all people should know this…

well people seem to "assume" that WiFi is faster than 3G, well let them believe so, the more people that are on WiFi, the more data is available to my iPhone from the cell tower.. And some people get offended when you don't use WiFi.. lol
AT$T is forcing me to pay $30 a month for unlimited data just so that i can have this iPhone… They did not give me an option to not get data, so the way i see it, if you are going to force me to pay for a data plan, then i am forced to use their data 24/7.
If i use Wifi for 15 days out of the month, then thats $15 that i gave to AT$T for free for data that i did not use…
Im sure the ones out there are gonna bash me for saying what i said, but thats the way i feel and thats my opinion.. The more those guys use wifi, the more data there is for me lol…

On VZW site it says for 3G only handsets they may throttle after 2GB but LTE devices aren't ever throttled.

I live in the middle of nowhere. I paid 3500 dollars to get cable ran to my house. I am not going to use EDGE data at home. If I need to use my phone at home, it will be over wi-fi.

Most people have better things to do than being glued to a PC though. Point is, 9 times out of 10, Wi-Fi is faster. For that reason, I prefer it over network data.

If you're mostly sitting home, you probably won't need an LTE radio in your phone, period.

I stopped by an AT&T store to pick up an accessory, and casually mentioned throttling to the store manager. He said that the throttle point is a partly a function of your account value to AT&T.

    Verizon's 3G network. ............................................ AT&T's 3G network.

    Verizon's 4G network.

    while interesting

your local att stores store manager doesn't throttle people, and he probably has no insight into the inner workings of their data network and what causes throttling

while he could be knowledgeable, the chances are extremely slim
