Technically Republic is a Carrier. The whole idea is that the majority of Data/Calls will be routed via IP through their own system. When not in WiFi range it will fall back ,or more appropriately roam, on Sprint.

Why is Republic listed as a carrier and not as a Sprint MVNO?
I usually support government regulation, but It is unfortunate that the government over-regulated and killed the AT&T/ T-Mobile Merger
The best explanation of the pricing nutiness in the industry.
Why Sprint and T-Mo will always suck.
The only way to end the pricing insanity is to eliminate contracts and subsidies.
I want Wifi calling on AT&T.
If you text while driving, you're an idiot. End of story.

Debatable. When they are routing as IP, they are not a facilities-based carrier, even though they have the very far back end of the IP infrastructure, effectively Comcast/AT&T/Verizon and the family geek who sets up the Wifi are acting as a facilities-based carrier in that regards, in terms of both site backhaul, as well as air interface is the facilities provider.
Technically all true, yes. But let's leave it at debatable. Arguments can be made on both sides. However, I feel given the whole spirit of the modern internet that they can legitimately be called a carrier. They do not NEED Sprint, but they just rather not sell a product which is nothing more than a fancy cordless phone. Yes, they do need the Internet and Wifi Routers, however the same argument can be made about most any wireless carrier. They are all mainly linked together via IP Back hauls. Difference being they own the transceiver and on a far larger scale. Typical Wireless Carriers all operate their own call termination and routing. The same is true for republic. A typical MVNO is not much more than a billing company.
Eh, fair enough. However, a true "carrier" operates their own IP-based backhaul, and doesn't require others to put it in place in exchange for their super low rates. I just think it's confusing in this forum to not have it listed where everyone would expect it to be- as a Sprint MVNO.

ROTFLMAO, I asked the same question about 4 days after the new subforum was created.
I do not complain though. We needed a new subforum for Republic and we got it. So god bless the Mod that pushed this through.
The first batch of phones are supposed to be out by the end of next month, so people should be reporting by Jan.

T-Mobile. Connecting you when you need it most... disconnecting you when you need to connect with God's beautiful creation! Service is great in cities and highways, but in rural areas they leave you with just your surroundings. I encourage you to get T-Mobile, disconnect for a while!
I am glad that God is not like cell phone coverage. He does not hide behind mountains or loose us down long windy roads. The Lord levels mountains, and He makes our paths straight!
I requested this subforum, and it was a judgment call by the Administrator as to where exactly it went. If in fact, it needs to be changed, please post here, and I can get see about getting it moved.

I can see it as being both.
I suggest we create a whole new category in the forum for Mutt MVNO Carriers.
Ok Just kidding.
I can take it or leave it where it is. So long as we have the sub forum.
Broadband.com is a clec all over the place, they have their own numbers and pop's I think it's safe to put them as a carrier
Howard Forums is mainly for cellular carriers, so since they're not a cellular carrier, I still think they should go in the MVNO section.
They are a VOIP carrier, but this isn't a VOIP forum.
That's my opinion.
