'Tis the season to buy accessories (and have accessories bought for us) so I wondered what I should get for my new Galaxy SIIx / T989. So far I have nothing, I even still have the plastic cover on it! (Do I need to do that, or is the glass tough enough?). So...
DOCKING STATION:
The official desktop docking station EDD-D1F4BEGSTA looks cute and even functional, it's U$50 retail but as low as U$35 shipped (to US) on Amazon Marketplace. Does it appeal to anyone else? Has anyone tried it?
VEHICLE MOUNT:
Don't need anything for GPS orientation but I'm guessing my Dollarama vent mount (works fine with our old cell phones) probably won't fit this monster mini-tablet. Can anyone recommend one, or will this phone pull out my vent? Beanbag or suction mounts on the dash don't work either, I had one for my Garmin but the dash is pebbled and sloped and it just slid right off at speed. It was funny (afterwards). I used to have a Z-bracket on my old vehicle, the kind that mounts behind the molding, but my current vehicle requires drilling 2 (hidden) holes and puts the bracket next to passenger's knee.
HDMI ADAPTER:
I don't want one now, but how's the picture quality on a TV? U$40 retail.
SCREEN PROTECTORS:
Like Zagg or whatever. I've used them on my Garmin GPS and an old Dell PDA and they work well. Does this phone need one? Does it hurt anything? Help anything (e.g. fingerprints)?
CASES:
-- silicone bowls on eBay are as little as U$2.89 shipped (from HKG). Are these good? I'm concerned that if the phone expects to radiate heat out the back that this will make it too hot (I know the cover is just a lump of plastic so not a heat sink but at least not an insulator).
-- TPU (rubberized) S-case for $2.83 shipped (cheaper if I'll take pink). Not sure what protective purpose this really serves other than grip, though covering only half the back might address any heat concern (assuming it's a real concern).
-- crystal (hard plastic) for $3.45 shipped. Seems kind of pointless to me but maybe this is a good compromise for some reason?
-- I've seen references to OtterBox as a good (but a bit bulky/heavy?) case, there's no OtterBox for this phone I think (there is for AT&T, I think "Skyrocket" is their LTE version?). However several eBay sellers have "T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II S2 T989 BALLISTIC SG Case Black compare2 otterbox" ($25.50-$40, shipped to US). It looks bulky, from the description it sounds like the OtterBox Defender series.
-- any other recommended cases?
Anything else I might want to buy or ask Santa for?
Best buy sells a case for the S II-X that is like the Otterbox, can't remember the name but it is 3 layer protection. Called the Bullet or something like that. Seen it in store.
I've seen on different forums that the Samsung Infuse is supposed to be the same size, same button/speaker/microphone location, but from what I can find from reviews there still might few a few mm difference on the various dimensions between the two. Going to BB in the next few days to see if the cases fit the SGIIX.
Another alternative would be finding a "Hercules" case. It's the same model apparently. T989 so unless they did something stupid and changed some buttons on it... then it _should_ fit.
It may look bulky but since the Galaxy S II is quite think to begin, using the Commuter case actually fits my hand better and more comfortable when I type on the larger screen.

BTW I realized the S-line TPU case covers the whole back of the phone. I guess half is shiny and half is matte.

awebber,
All those "heavy-duty", hybid, multi-layer cases are not meant to be taking them off, putting them on frequently. Over time, it may lose the rigidness.
If you also want to dock the handset in the original docking solution, cases that may be too thick for that.
Thanks everyone for the advice. I ordered an S-line gel case on eBay and almost ordered a silicone case (they ship "worldwide with a few exceptions", exceptions including Canada for some reason -- asked for an exception and haven't heard back). Both from HKG so will probably take 2 weeks to arrive.
Debating on the Ballistic SG (Otterbox clone), I do like the look of the docking station though I'll try to get my hands on an OB for the feel and maybe I'll prefer to get a BSG than a dock.
If you get the Gel Skin, get a wrapsol screen protector. They are actually pretty decent. Either that or see if there's an InvisibleShield for it yet. I haven't tried to look for that yet.
