If the auction is open and I think it will be after Paradis comments he made today regarding service for all Canadians you can expect things to return to the way they were within the next 3 years.
Telecom has become a commodity business. "Dumb pipes" moving bits from point A to point B. There's really no way you can compete except with handset selection and value-added services such as Mobile TV.

The monopoly law we have here is a joke

Cell phone company, Banks, TV (Rogers, Shaw, Bell), + many more are all monopolies.

I can bet my life they all have regular meetings to discuss what promos they will have and take turns at it as well as discuss what is the most they can set the price that we will have to pay.

Wouldn't it be nice to have them fight for our business where we can benefit?

Support Mobilicity, WIND, Public Mobile and any small guys if you want to have something cheaper and better service in the long run.

Else, go get a mortgage on your house and get ready to see more price increase, administration cost, service fee, and my favorite, (oh no, you have to pay me more fee) due to our policy.

Look at koodo and virgin this week, both made changes to their flex data, both plans are identical, one released 2 days before the other, so the follower had 2 days to prepare its website, system and all it's paperwork. How is that possible? Collusion at its finest.

I guess the US and European carriers missed your memo.

First of all, AT&T and Verizon ARPU are really close. Sprint and T-Mobile are forced to undercut their prices because they don't have the premium headsets. So in a way, WIND having no iPhone is good because it forces them to compete and undercut the Big 3 prices. I'm sure if Sprint and T-Mobile had the iPhone, they would have the same ARPU as AT&T and Verizon.

Umm Sprint has the Iphone. You do realize the Iphone isn't the only phone people want right?

Right ARPU is similar but they did it by innovating and finding the best handset/plan combinations to attract customers, not by offering the exact same plans and price points, competing for the customers not sharing them.

The Canadian companies innovate everyday. Guess who ranks 3rd and 4th for R&D spending in this country. >http://www.newswire.ca/en/story/6817...-spenders-list

That list is old, look at the 2011 list: http://www.researchinfosource.com/me...100Listsup.pdf

    1. RIM is still number one
    2. BCE
    16. TELUS and Rogers

    Interesting to note:
    Ericson Canada at number 7.
    Alcatel-Lucent number 9.
    Sierra Wireless 24.
    Sandvine corp. 60
    Dragonwave in at number 88.

Just the amounts of money spend in communication in this country is insane. All of a sudden those $40 rate plans make you wonder some more.

Might spend on r&d for tax purposes but sure don't utilize anything learned. LOok at each carriers plans, they're all exactly the same, not sure what they're researching? Maybe how much Canadians are willing to spend on plans with little value?

Actually, it's for TV delivered using Packet Switching (Internet Protocol) research (especially for ILECS), Content Delivery Network (CDN) research, customer statistics, GIS (Geographic Information System) research, FTTH (Fiber to the Home) research, LTE research etc.

So not much of this is for wireless. And I see nothing here about plan research or competition practices. Just standard r&d for maintaining a network and building a network.

Do you work for bell or Telus?

TV delivered over IP I'd say TELUS.
