The Backup to CD or DVD is no longer available for iTunes 10.4 or later. You are only offered the option to backup to external hard drive on Windows computers or using the Time Machine for Apple computers. Backup and restore through iCloud is available but could take a long time.
Items purchased through the iTunes Store can be placed on another authorized computer using iTunes' Transfer Purchases functionality.
There are shareware computer programs available that can extract files from an iPhone. If you tell us what kind of computer you are running, we might be able to recommend a specific one.
It's always good to back up the iPhone and also iTunes content. This makes transferring content to a new computer a breeze. One of the pitfalls of relying on 3rd party extraction software to try to rip content from an iOS device is the quality. I like to rip my purchased CDs at lossless format to preserve the sound quality. iTunes has an option to down convert content to smaller file size 128k files to save space on the iOS device, leaving your computer's iTunes library at lossless. That really sucks for me, as I wouldn't want what I put on my iPhone's music back in my iTunes music library at low quality, but it's okay for my phone. The best way if concerned about sound quality is to be proactive and back up all content in iTunes for times like this.
Let's try this again without the arguing that took the thread off topic. I've removed the entire off-topic thread of replies.
Please stick to the topic, question the OP about specific things like Windows/Mac, but please do not argue with each other off topic.
Thanks.

There are ways of getting music stored with the iTunes music library of an iPhone off the phone, but depending on how iTunes on the computer was set up to sync, the results may not be optimal. I am not sure if iTunes music can be ripped from an iPhone if it is set up as encrypted within iTunes. If iTunes is setup to convert music sync'd as 128k, all the music in the iTunes music library on the phone will be 128k AAC format, regardless of the original on the computer.
Just some of the obstacles, depending on how your iPhone was set up with iTunes.
