    Number Change and Unlimited Data?

Is this i spoke with Verizon about wanting to port my number to GV so i had unlimited texting that way instead of having to pay for it. I use Whats App and can use text free for MMS (which eventually GV will support MMS at some point), they said that if i wanted to keep my unlimited data and port the number out i can change the phone number and do the port right away to ensure i don't lose the number. Is this a safe way to go?

On the data note someone here said they have a system where if your on 2 gigs plan and wait til the end of month they can switch you to unlimited data. My other line doesn't have any data at all on it. Would this possibly work in my case?

If the top i mentioned isn't a safe way to go, anyone know any alternates?

I was just on the phone twice myself with VZW trying to port my number to GV. I was told both times there was no way to do it without incurring an ETF and loosing unlimited data. I even asked if it was possible to add an additional line then swap the numbers but keeping the data plan with the new number on the main line and they said no. From other posts that I have read it looks like it depends on who you talk to as to whether the will wave the ETF and give you unlimited data back after you port. Wish there was a way to ensure I wouldn't lose my unlimited data.

A in store rep told me i can change the phone number online and THEN right after port the number to GV. This way the old number is no longer under contract and its free to port. Sounds like an ok idea but im afraid of losing my number though. Because right now i have the 10 dollar text bundle with unlimited data and 550 family share plan minutes. I mean its not bad just want to make some things easier for some people.
