Reports are coming out that this has now indeed been closed and that supposedly Verizon is now tracking accounts that did the loophole, whatever that means.

From what is being said the $29.99 Unlimited Data Plan has been removed from the system so no matter what you say or try it won't show and the loophole won't work.

Anyone out there that can confirm or deny this?

Until I see more than 10 people report that they got their accounts audited for having the loophole used I'm calling BS.

It was all fun and games until the loophole showed up on Phillip Dampier's site. Now I know why I can't stand that guy. Fighting to keep unlimited in wireless is the wrong fight, can't he go lobby for a muni fiber project somewhere?

Fiber backhaul for Verizon in Southern Illinois in 2013 - about time.

Check out XDA and elsewhere. But it's not just auditing its also the people getting denied the unlimited HS and data no matter what they do or how many times they call.

I've been randomly googling this topic and was astounded by the number of Gizmodo and Slickdeals articles that were literally copied and pasted on different android forums and various personal blogs about how to exploit this "loophole"... with some being really recent articles posted as of a few days ago.

Only taking this with a grain of salt while reading a few user comments on these sites, it seems like as of Jan 18th, there were posts made about still being able to drop MHS and keep unlimited data or using that code when calling in to a CSR. In fact, one of my buddies tried this 2 days ago and after 2 tries was successfully able to have that added his account.

So I think to whitetigergrowl's point made several times before, it still seems inconsistent across the board for Verizon. Now I can't say that there won't be something brewing down the road (maybe in one giant swoop) but as of now, I haven't heard of any drastically major auditing done or news of a bunch of people in different locations being reverted back to a tiered plan who have previously done this.

Agreed and thanks for your post. I also would like to hear of denials besides whitetigergrowl's "reports". Seems to be constantly repeating hearsay.

I wonder if Verizon is actually hyping this up and spreading rumors to get people to stop

Ummm you may have missed those in this thread that have been denied it no matter how many times they have called. And there have been audits. In fact in the past page or 2 it happened to someone.

It's not hearsay when you have people reporting it. Just because it hasn't happened enmasse doesn't mean it isn't happening. And with this thread having so many views it's rather interesting more people haven't spoken up with their experience.

Very true... it's not hearsay, but it definitely still seems like there's inconsistency all around on Verizon's part:
    a) some have been able to add it without trouble versus others trying numerous times and getting denied
    b) the code no longer exists on the CSR's side to add it to an account but others have had it added recently
    c) removal of the MHS option online doesn't exist whereas others could remove it online without problems

I am surprised too that not many others have spoken up about their (current) experiences so far either - whether they've had it for a long time, been billed as expected, noticed contract agreements change, been audited and reverted back to a tiered plan, etc. I'm sure Verizon must have some strategy in motion about dealing with this as this has been publicly leaked all over the web, but I think at this point with all the inconsistencies we're basically all speculating what might happen.

This. Until I do see it I'm calling BS.

Those "reports" all list the same site as a reference that CLAIMED that VZW closed the loophole and were to have an audit team reverting peoples accounts that had the loophole used back to tiered data. What raises a red flag is that they only reported that "one" person got their account audited and said nothing about how they acquired the info that VZW had shut down the loophole (which is obvious BS because people still had the loophole used after that was posted) and that other balderdash. We haven't heard anything official from VZW saying that they were aware of the loophole, they shut it down, or they were reverting accounts back to tiered, thus, I will still be calling BS until I see otherwise (and that doesn't include scare tactics from a website that doesn't list sources).

I do acknowledge the inconsistency of people getting unlimited data through the loophole. While that seems plausible with my personal experience of carrier reps in general, that went on before that ONE report (that numerous sites referred to in their would be reports that the loophole was closed) that listed no sources, thus it shouldn't be a surprise. I'm mean come on, you get a report that one of your readers was given a call from VZW to notify them that their account will be audited/moved back to tiered for having a rep work the loophole for them, you get word that VZW shut down the loophole, and you get word that VZW has an audit team that was mass-reverting the accounts of everyone who had used the loophole back to unlimited data within 24 hours (which didn't happen BTW) in one swoop? I'm not buying it. It seems as real as the Motorola Jet and the Motorola Bullet. But yeah, some people are getting it and some people aren't and there doesn't seem to be an apparent method to the madness.

So without me having to read 26 pages, can someone tell me if this is dead now or if it still works?

Al;so, when doing this, does it change your data plan from a $25 plan to a $30 plan? Or does it add an additional $30 plan to your $25 plan and you have to pay them both (if you keep the tethering)?

I don't have Verizon but I would probably be well on my way if they had a phone I wanted and unlimited data.

No one can say because some people are getting unlimited data and some people are getting shot down time after time. If you decide to pull the trigger, be sure to sweet-talk the rep; that's what I did and I got it on the first try. Also, on a Rezound General thread on XDA on this subject that can be found here...

...they have the specific code you can tell the rep that you're interested in. That might make things smoother as well.

Oh yeah, don't forget that you can always cancel within the 14-day return window.

That thread says it's dead. I guess I missed the boat.
