I really should tell people at work about this. My newest trainee just got a Bionic with 4GB under the double data promo but it would be sweet for him to be able to get onto the old unlimited package.

Just called and got the $30 plan and the first guy said it was $30 but said it would only give me 2gb extra for the month to which I asked if he is sure it wasn't unlimited, he confirmed that it is only for 2gb. \

I called again and got the same thing but the guy correctly explained it was $20 extra and that the $30 plan was only for unlimited data plans. I declined again.

    I will try again soon.

Does anyone know if there is a good time to call in order to better get a rep that doesn't know the policy as well? Every time I call the rep always knows that the plan can not be added to a tiered plan and basically tells me the same "We could only add that on to your account if you already have unlimited data."

The sad thing is if I got this feature, I probably wouldn't even remove the mobile hotspot as it would be a great alternative to the terrible internet connection I currently have at home. At this rate I may end up getting the $50 10gb plan, rooting my phone and using tethering that way.

Has anyone noticed a difference in billing when adding the unlimited via this method? I ask because I was told that the $30 2GB (which is currently doubled to 4GB) does not qualify for discount from my corporate discount, but the old $29.99 unlimited plan would have. I am wondering if anyone can verify that, once changed to unlimited, the data stays charged at $30 a month or if it is now charged at the old $29.99 unlimited rate. Thanks.

The old $29.99 unlimited data feature is still eligible for a corporate discount, but with tiered data the minimum cost they will discount is $50. And if you can get the unlimited data, it will be billed @ $29.99, not $30.

Great success! Just called and got it added on. Took 4 attempts but just checked my account and it's there. Also Dave is correct, on my account there is a 20% discount towards the unlimited data 29.99 portion.

Does anyone know if the actual hotspot gets discounted as well?

Interesting...I was wondering why after getting $29.99 unlimited I got an additional corporate discount when I didn't for $30 for 4GB. I thought it was an oversight on their part when changing me to unlimited.

    Lucky me!

So, is this possible with iphones? Just call and get the 3g add on and remove it?

When I had the hotspot on my line, it was discounted as well.

Seeing as how the instructions say "4G phones only" and the 3g hotspot isn't unlimited anyway...

Yes you can. I did it over a month ago. Don't listen to the ignorant post above mine.

The loophole still exist although it took quite a bit of work to get it. I just added a new razr to my plan and after I received it I went in tonight to add the feature. The manager said I could get it and then every time she tried putting it in it said blocked and the only option they gave me was adding the $50 plan for 2gb of extra for the hotspot so I left there. I called *611 and the first rep tried and said it was blocked and said all he could give me was the 2gb add on. I called back again and the second guy knew I was looking for the loophole already and told me it had been blocked by corporate. He only offered me 5gb add on for $30 which I declined. I called back 5 minutes later and the next guy right away said no problem and it only took him less than a minute and it was added. He also said that was an add on that I could drop at anytime and it wouldn't effect my data plan. After I got off the phone I checked and sure enough it shows up as unlimited data so it was successful. My advice for people trying to add it is to keep trying untill you get the right rep. I plainly stated I wanted the $30 hotspot plan every time. In my case 3rd time was a charm over the phone so good luck to everyone else who trys and at least we know it cant still be done. I did find it interesting however the first time when I went into the store the original rep accidentally took the unlimited off of my primary line because she tried adding the hotspot to it and it turned it into a 10gb corporate plan which I caught as soon as I got out of the store. After I went back in she quickly had to call a verizon number to have the unlimited during which I heard the rep on the phone as 3 times to verify I originally had unlimited data so she could put it back on.
