Hi all
I've spent about 6 hours trying to unlock my phone, and I hope you guys can help, as you're the last hope.
Long story short, my buddy gave me his old 3gs when he got a 4S last week, as I said I could use it to give it to my mom to use on prepaid (Speakout - Same as Rogers).
His was locked to Bell, and he had done the 5.0 update when it came out. So, my intention is to unlock it so I can use the Speakout sim in it. It also had the baseband which I read could not be unlocked, the Ipad 6.15 baseband had to be installed.
So, I did the snowbreeze 2.8 procedure to create a ipsw firmware with that baseband. Booted into DFU mode, and went to restore in Itunes. Got the 3194 error, so googled and used tinyumbrella to have the TSS server running.
I then got the 2005 error in Itunes when trying to restore, after software gets extracted. Googled that, and remedies there include a bad cord or USB issues. Changed cords and ran dignostics on usb ports, no problems.
Further google said to try another computer. Got the same setup and files on my laptop, same issue and error code.
Googled and said could be firewall, antivirus. Turned that off, nothing.
More googling...make sure the host file has the correct .gs.apple line in it. Already did, still nothing.
Googled some more, and said to downgrade to 10.4.1 Itunes. Like everything else, tried that. Did that on the laptop. Success finally in Itunes....for 45 seconds. The Snowbreeze logo shows, and the staus bar goes a few notches...then an Itunes 16 error.
Googled that, and the 16 error issue there is that the cooked software version needs Itunes 10.5.1 to work.
Of course, because the Snowbreeze had started loading the OS, it started to take off the old OS, and there is nothing (I don't think) as far as OS on the phone now.
I booted out of recovery mode, but its now showing the Itunes connect logo. I tried to restore through normal Itunes methods, got same 2005 error. Downloaded the apple ipsw file and tried that way to restore...same 2005 error.
I just want an OS on this phone so I can do something with it, either unlock it, or at least, have an operable OS on it.
Am I missing something with the 2005 Itunes error? As said, its been tried on two computers with different cables. It actually started working on 10.4.1, so leads me to believe its not a cable or USB, that is something with 10.5.1, but nothing I google says that this seems to be an issue with the snowbreeze method. What about Itunes 10.5.0?
Anyways, any help would be appreciated...starting to think I have bricked this, if Itunes isn't letting me restore through normal methods....but this 2005 error doesn't seem to be something that should be so fatal.
TIA
