    Reputable online handset resellers?

I'm finally looking at jumping into the 21st century and getting smartphones for me and my wife.
She wants a physical keyboard, and I'm looking at the Droid 2 (for both of us).

Is there a list of trusty online equipment resellers that could be suggested? (Maybe another forum thread that I missed?) I could always go the eBay route and end up with two phones from different sellers and different shipping/warranty/etc. I'd prefer to buy from a reputable online reseller that might have two of these available (used or refurbs) that I could buy with a single transaction - and possibly even with a short warranty period while I get them up and running on PP.

    Thanks in advance.

eBay - this is where I got mine. Just pay attention to feedback (high number (thousands) and at least 99.5% positive - they do this for a living and reputation is important to them) and return policy (at least a week unconditional). Find someone who has multiple phones listed and has reasonable "buy it now" price. I no longer bother with auctions when buying.

Also I would suggest getting a new phone but I am not sure new D2-s are available.

I just ordered two Droid 2 handsets from Cowboom.com, which is a Best Buy company, for $68.54 shipped(each). They are used handsets, guaranteed to be fully working. I have ordered other items from them in the past and have found that often their descriptions (they have descriptions of each individual item, and you get to pick the one you want) tend to be very pessimistic. I ordered an MP3 player from them dirt cheap, I paid $10, normal prices was $80, the description said it had scratches and signs of heavy use, it was like new.

I have also talked to others who have gotten items that were exactly as described, scratches, signs of use etc... The crap shoot is no worse than Ebay, and they have a decent 30 return policy.

I ordered from gazelle on eBay. Phone they sent was practically brand new except they sent the wrong model. No problems with the return though. Ordered a used Droid from CowBoom and it was as described and working just fine.

I wanted to give an update on the Droid 2 Global phones I ordered from Cowboom for $68 shipped.

They came in this evening, one is in very good condition, I can't see any scratches at all on the screen, and a very few tiny scratches on the body, those scratches are small enough that you really have to look for them to see them. The only obvious issue on the phone is the battery cover has seen some rough handling, it does not look like it belongs with this phone at all.

The other is in like new condition, if it was in a retail box I would have no trouble believing it was a factory refurb and probably a new unit.

They both came with Gingerbread already installed (the specs on Cowboom showed Eclair).

I am very happy with both of these phones, and yes, their actual condition was much better than the description on the website would lead you to believe. Of course I would rather be surprised and get a nice phone when I expect a beater, than expect a nice phone and get junk.

I ordered a Droid 2 from Cowboom a couple of weeks ago. Mine shows quite a bit of use and has scratches on the screen. Still it is functionally perfect and the scratches aren't bad enough to impair the use of the device. My phones typically end up with a lot of wear anyways and now I don't have to feel bad about that first scratch. If you do get one that doesn't meet your standards they have a 30 day return policy.

I just received the phone that I purchased from Cowboom. It is the "OG" of Android phones, the HTC G1. The condition was as described. The battery is so-so but I'd already ordered an extended battery in anticipation of that (usually is the case with used mobiles I purchase). It works fine thus far and has been rooted as well as given a CyanogenMod rom upgrade to keep me-and it- happy.

Thanks for all the feedback folks! I ended up ordering two Droid 2s from Recellular.
(for a bit more than $68 each)
I should finally get to see them this weekend (Christmas gifts).

I'll definitely look at Cowboom in the future for additional handsets or other items!

The droid 2 is a great phone. Hulu plus and Netflix. Plus others. Seems to be compatible with a lot of apps whereas a lot of android devices are not. Mine is on 75 dollar with 450 min and ul data on vzw. Xm/Sirius also works well with it. I had a confused pt that demanded to listen to NPR luckily I pulled out the droid 2 started that app and he calmed down and stopped yelling and fighting (Alzheimer's ). That made that service priceless.

What apps are not compatible with other Android phones? I've yet to find one that won't work on my Incredible, but that doesn't mean they don't exist...

Just an update: I ordered a second Droid 2 from Cowboom. My first one show a lot of use and had quite a few scratches on the screen. Aside from one tiny scratch on the screen on this new one, it looks absolutely brand new, no wear on it anywhere else that I can see. They even included a USB cable and wall charger adapter, both of which look like they've never been used. I'm waiting on a case and some screen protectors before I put the new one into use. After that I'll probably keep the scratched up one around as a back up and to experiment with different roms and such. All in all a big thumbs up for Cowboom.

On a side note, I received an email from them this morning that the Droid 2 was on sale for $59.99. Alas when I visited the site they appear to be sold out.

Android prices vary widely compared to say the iphone. The biggest issue is which version is the max version of Android os it can be updated too. One method to get around handset maker /carrier max os limits is to use cyanogen mod to root and rom your Android with a more up to date version.

I have reason to post some follow up on my original thread.......hope it doesn't sound too much like phishing, but I wanted to let folks know about very good customer service that we've received from ReCellular. We bought two Droid 2's just before Christmas. We love the phones, but my wife's phone keyboard started acting up. A couple of the keys on the physical keyboard started doing weird things - the P and the K keys. I researched multiple forums looking for any similar problems and solutions and none of them applied to her phone (it was not an issue with "auto correct" or "hot keys". I believe there may be a physical (wiring) problem with that handset.
I told her to send an e-mail to ReCellular and ask about their return/exchange policy. They issued an RMA and told her a new handset would be on it's way once they confirmed the bad one was in FedEx's hands. She sent it back yesterday and today we got confirmation of the new one back out to us. I hope that her new/used phone is as good as mine - we love them, and no problem staying under the data caps on the TnT1200 plans. Way to go ReCellular!
