Yeah; very shocked this didn't use a standard MicroUSB cable. May pick up one or two since I am back and forth quite often.

Thumbs up HTC Amaze usb connector

It uses a different class of microUSB connector to charge, which actually charges a bit faster than what you probably have laying around. But your older microUSB cables will work just fine, too.

So, the regular Micro-A USB fits and charges the phone without a problem???

Anyone know why HTC used a different connector type? I don't believe it has anything to do with faster charge times as my Playbook (and other tablets) with a much higher capacity charger and battery still use the standard micro USB style plug. Is this a shared port perhaps for hdmi out or something?

I would guess that they used the connector they did for sturdiness - that's always been my concern with the microusb connectors. Standard microusb seems pretty fragile, when I plug the included cable in it's rock-solid and clicks in solidly (and deep) where on other phones with stock microusb it doesn't seem as solid.

Yes i can confirm my N8 usb cable is charging, right now from my computer, my Htc amaze 4g; but is not working as usb cable to see Htc content. So lets see how long it takes for a charge. Be back with update later.

Just in case anyone is still following this thread I would like to add my 5˘. I do have an HTC Amaze (Ruby). And I too spent a lot of time hunting down this strange looking USB cable until a gentleman at Futureshop told me that this connector in not a USB connect. It's in fact a dual purpose connect that can serve has USB or HDMI output. And yes, the HTC Amaze has the ability to control an HDMI display via that port. But after more investigation, I discovered that the cable that came with my phone cannot fulfil the mission of HDMI TV-out. I suspect that such cable will have more pins clearly visible in the "protruding" part that extend the length of a normal microUSB connector and the other end of the cable will be a regular HDMI connector.

And I can assure you that the cable alone (a simple cable without any circuitry) will not provide an enhanced battery charging capability.

    Cheers guys

    Leave long and prosper.

Hey, o problem the N8 is charging properly; right now i am looking into smth else; lately i bought a league nba pass; but it is nit working on my acer tablet, instead is working on my htc amaze; but the screen is to small, so i bought a hdmi cable to connect to my tv; got ok, very clear picture; but another issue, despite that the hdmi cable has a cable to connect to a charger my htc does not charge so after a bit more the picture becomes pure because of the battery deplete rate; i did find a solution i bought a charger with two spare battery so when the battery from htc is gone i take out at replced with a charged one; should you have a better solution please tell me; ty.
