Honestly, use what you like, and don't care about what a bunch of people on an Internet forum say. If you get iOS, and it is a more natural feel to you, and you just want your phone to work, that's probably the best bet.

If you want the best spec phones with the largest screens, and want more customability, then go with Android. However I have found most of people outside of the geek circles don't give a crap about any of those things. I would just take 30 minutes to play with an iPhone in a Verizon store than 30 minutes to play with a Galaxy Nexus. That hour should give you a pretty good idea of what YOU prefer.

I don't think 30 minutes ever gave anyone an idea what it's like to live with either. That's why people ask. There are lots of people like me who went from iphone 4 or 4s to Android.

If you want less glitch android ICS right now is not for you. It's a brand new version and there are quite a few glitches that needs to be fixed. Apple fans would point that out of be the big reason why they stick with Apple. For me though (as a mac user) I don't think it's a big issue. It's not like iOS never had issues either. The difference is that Android is still getting heavy development while iOS has slowed down over the last few releases.

The features that came with the bugs is very good on ICS. As said before notification especially on the galaxy nexus with the light is a cut above apple's. As is how android handles multi tasking. In my mind I see the good notification and multi tasking as 2 things that really goes hand in hand and is based on android's OS philosophy. I have made a that joke a few times online and with my friends about Apple's "post PC era" in that you can only use your iphone after it's been plug into a computer. While with Android the phone in itself is pretty stand alone. You power it on it has a setup routine asking you for some info. If you already have google account it's pretty much bin bang boom your phone's setup to your online credentials.

In my experiences with the 2 OS my view is that iOS is a bit long in the tooth and has became a legacy OS. Which is quick considering it's age lol. What I mean is apple has a big user base who expects and evangelizes "the experience". That combined with the death of Jobs and the ushering in of a new more normal executive branch means that likely things will not radically change from version to version. I mean siri-ously, what is the major difference in the basic layout and operation of iOS between 4 and 5? There's siri for 4S only and icloud but a lot of things has stagnated since late iOS 4.

The other thing for me is the spit and polish of both OS. iOS and apple has a big reputation for this and in some ways it's true. However, when people say they can't stand Android cause the apps don't look as good or the icons don't look as neat? That is really pointing a finger and 3 pointing back. As already mentioned notification is better in android (for me anyhow) as in multi-tasking. Dig a bit deeper though and it starts feeling like iOS's GUI is a plain flat desk. You put stuff on it and eventually it gets filled up even with folders. Where as in android it's a desk with drawers where you can put away stuff you don't need right now. The Android gui actually makes a lot of sense after a few hours of use.

I guess after the long post what I mean to say is if you are curious about android by all means go and try it out. It's like dating, you shouldn't think there's only 1 person in the world who you'd meet and fall in love with. You shouldn't think there's only 1 phone to rule them all either.

What do you mean memory can be swapped out to 32GB?

I've been looking around and can only find the 16GB Nexus and it has no SD card

The limited memory is one of the major things holding me back from a GN

Interesting points all around. I have a few of my own.

    @drillbit,
Dude if you cannot time the double tap of the iPhone home button right then you should NOT use any modern piece of electronic computing device. How on earth did you survive Nintendo Gameboy??! I will Heavily agree it takes longer to close apps: double taping home button and holding home button is the same length of time - but swiping doesn't close the apps does it I ICS?? On iOS I still have to search side to aside vs up and down on android (symantecs here) - but on ios I must press and hold for the jiggle then press the X to close the app. That is seriously annoying over time. My way around this is to not keep apps open for more than 10mins since the data connection for any IOS app will close when running in the background.

    Now for my opinions.
Ice cream sandwich and the tweak capability looks promising! However to me it's S60 all over again - more modern apps but the plethora of options is the same in my view.

ICS/Android notification much faster than iOS but the pull down curtain is pretty much at its basic use the same. User chooses which apps get notifications some are core (phone calls SMS mms). However many advances beyond that are in Android. For me I always hated a busy screen like that of Windows Mobile 6/6.5 of yesteryear.

To me I'm jaded to iOS since by day I'm.a windows user and by night a Mac user.
I can use an iPhone cable to a standard USB port and in Europe a Micro USB end is available.
Bookmarks added/edited deleted are sync'd to my Mac, iNooks allows bookmarks, my page is sync'd to my iPad an kept in iCloud backups or via iTunes. iTunes is STILL by far the easier and amongst the best juke box playlist app along with third party apps to use it on iOS.

I'm actually VERY surprised with Google's services it took them longer to synchronize them together for Android - Chrome should've been available as standard since Gingerbread.

What I hate the MOST about iOS:
I have to start with a picture before attaching to emails! This means I cannot reply to all in a thread. I hate typing in forums like this even in an app because the second paragraph above I cannot see what the funk I'm typing-scrolling doesn't work!!! This 3.5" screen is getting small especially with how great iOS keyboard is - and 5"/4.5" is almost too big.

Spellcheck for ANY platform is still a pain in the *** but at least I can edit the learned or miss learn words on other platforms - I cannot on ios which MUST be fixe.

I'm hoping ICS brings a lot of uniformity.

Ps: galaxy Nexus doesn't have an SD card slot does it? Also a larger capacity battery means larger cover and slimness is lost so that is a lame argue meant. Stating a spare battery is a powerful argument. However most pol use their smartphones in major cities as the bandwidth is there to support the various functions with apps.

I honestly believe your computer platform of house or your need or comfort of tweaking a system heavily ways in on your choice.

I never did use the Nintendo Gameboy. And yes, double tapping does annoy me and it has no business in any modern interface. Repetitive pressing gesture simply not right due to the stress on the carpals.

The tasking bar on my iOS device, which is an iPod Touch, is quite annoying and months would even pass before I would look at it and say damn, "I should have closed that app months ago!"

In ICS, swiping does remove the app's interface. Means you cannot interact with it once that module is removed. It doesn't mean you can kill the app's Services (background agents). But Services only occupy like 20kb to 50kb of memory, unlike the full application with its interface module (in Android terms, the Activity base object) which can weigh on average from 10 to 20mb of memory. All this means that yes, Android apps are modular in construction.

No, Galaxy Nexus doesn't have an SD card. The mixed quality of micro SD cards are a lag causing culprit. Lag is caused by many reasons, and slow SD cards are among one.

Chrome for Android rocks, even in this beta form. Although its not that much better than the native ICS browser which is very good by itself. I got all my bookmarks and page history syncing across desktop to phone and vice versa. Awesome to see this in action.

You bought the wrong device for memory addition. Samsung is arguably the best platform (and best selling) for Android right now as it is already 16GB and accepts a 32GB card.. That's the thing with Android. You have Hardware choices and must look at all the specs.

I am a 57 year old who is not particularly a geek but I want control over how I use the devices I pay for. I want to decided which applications I want to use and where to get them. I have to have a device with drag and drop among all computers as I use my phone for general storage as well. The cloud is all good and well when you have a good strong signal....LOL

Plus the $10 unliminted MediaNEt data plan and the FM radio is nice on when using a device ATT does not sell.

i am a BB user have been for a long time, bought an iphone 3gs, used it for 2 mths, just hated it for the fact of itunes, I can not understand why I need to be stuck to itunes? I then bought an Android HTC Sensation, I was flat out amazed, the BB9900 is my work phone. I am eligible for a HUP, I want the Galaxy Note for its screen size but will probably settle for the Google Nexus and get the Note later in the summer.

Personally I have to say after only 5 mths of Android use it is just flat out the best, I see no reason for ios, that is just my personal opinion
