This is highly suspected to be the same as the T-Mobile Samsung Exhibit II 4G which means it (unlike most Bell phones) *does* have the AWS band. So I would say yes but nobody's reported back for sure.

Galaxy W and Exhibit II, which are the same phone, have 850/1700/1900/2100 3G (no 900 I believe).

I would like to see this confirmed though by an actual user. :-)

While you're at it could you report the FCC ID from inside, probably under the battery? That'll determine for good if it's the exact same device.

I would like to know this as well. If this was the same phone as the Exhibit II, would Bell provide an unlock code for free if you buy it outright?

    Folks,

Though Samsung Galaxy W from Bell, SGH-T679M, does support the AWS band operations, you still require to unlock it first. Also I have not determined if the baseband has been "tailored-made" for Bell or specifically cripple the AWS support.

As for the FCC filing (FCC ID: A3LSGHT679M), read the test reports regarding the WCDMA1700 / AWS emissions...

Okay, well there we have it

In general I have only rarely seen cases where a band is soft-locked out when the Android does actually support it. The Telus Desire would refuse to fall back to GSM on its original firmware but that was remedied in Froyo. The Telus Amaze and SGS2X don't have AWS locked out. And Bell doesn't seems to be in the habit of crippling their Androids - they will load up a bit of crapware but they don't usually strip out features.

    ascyeris,

By default, the "M" variant of a particular Samsung handset model is designated for Bell. So there is no obligation to advertise or even technically supporting any other carrier. So if anyone does not want to take the risk or believe that the baseband has been crippled beyond Bell (and its roaming partners), then pass this model altogether.

I will post my findings here with testing an unlocked unit, Mobilicity and WIND SIM cards.

according to this it should work. Who has the cheapest unlock code or can you unlock it yourself like the ace and gio?
