Anyone try this Rogers One Number thing?

It's very cool, and I can see it being very useful in the near future. It's in beta, but if anyone is interested, they should check it out.

It's free for now as far as I can tell.

Anthony Lacavera, CEO of WIND: "People always ask me: “Aren’t you upset with the CRTC?” I’d say no. “Aren’t you upset with Rogers, Bell and Telus?” No. I’d do the same thing if I was Rogers, Bell or Telus."

Some of the things I can do with Kies air. Surprised I didn't hear about this. Will have to try it out tonight.
I do not currently work in the industry or represent any wireless providers.

Seems like a gimped version of what Google Voice does for US residents. GV has been undergoing some changes recently that have some speculating that an international rollout is imminent. Maybe Rogers is trying to head that off. Freephoneline.ca also provides some of the same functionality in Canada.
    Carrier unlocked iPhone 4
Unlimited airtime, Unlimited CAN/US long distance, Unlimited SMS to CAN/US wireless numbers
2500 Call Forwarding minutes to CAN/US numbers
    CiD, 6GB
Google Voice for visual voice mail with message transcription, conditional greetings, unlimited messages (vs 35 message cap), remote retrieval from any PC or phone, no auto-purge after 10 days and most importantly no $7-$8 charge.

I must admit, I literally suggested the same thing in the Bell forums a few days ago, and now a carrier has actually rolled it out
! Pretty cool and definitely something I've been wanting for quite some time. Figures they would disallow VOIP calling over 3G, though I'm ready to bet people will find a way around that.

Now, the politics of GV/other similar services are definitely interesting. If GV is indeed launching in Canada (something that I understand carriers have been doing their darndest to delay) then I can certainly see why Rogers would launch this service.

Nevertheless, a pretty good move on the part of Rogers.

My guess is that the "Ring My Numbers" features uses minutes like if I answered the call on my iPhone? So if I'm unlimited after 6pm & weekend, if I answer a call at these times that had my cell phone as destination, I can talk for however long I want?

I've been using this for a while. To be honest, for most, it'll be a fad. After a while, watch your usage start to lean towards your mobile.

Anyways, one thing I do want to remind everyone who has signed up for Rogers One Number, remember, you can no longer manage your call forwarding on your mobile, it MUST be done via the RON portal for the unconditional call forwarding as such, since that is your 'communication portal'.

Updated info I would like to add. You can manage your call forwarding rules, but must be done via the apps. Cannot be done via the star codes.

Thanks for mentioning this, good to know.

I hate talking on my mobile phone for more than 5-10 minutes, since I've got low signal in the basement and well, the heat and/or radiation gets to you. This is a godsend for me.

Anyone getting this screen on the online management page?

Also, what's the windows app for? Can't seem to get that working either

I signed up for it. When i tried to download the mac version of the phone program the .DMG file seems to be corrupt. Just splatters oodles of text on my browser. I'll check back in a couple of days to see if this has been fixed on the site.
