Looks like RON breaks on-phone call forwarding. A problem for me since I use a non-Rogers voicemail and it needs conditional call forwarding to integrate properly. I guess I have to choose one or the other.

One might be tempted to think that limitation might be intentional.

I don't think this is some kind of conspiracy. It's likely a configuration issue having to do with where the call is being redirected (tromboned).

    I spoke too soon.

If I want to use my external voicemail - I've just discovered I can setup conditional call forwarding rule inside RON - and everything works like it used to. (My external voicemail answers if unanswered or rejected on the phone).

BUT - if I use reach me rules (ring multiple numbers) - then I can't choose conditional call forwarding at the same time; the RON rule for Ring my phones replaces the call forwarding rule.

Rogers_Chris, is there any charges for using the reach me functionality. If I ring multiple numbers - is there any cost to receive a call on my office or home phone? Or if I call forward using RON - is there any call forward charge? (assume all destinations in Canada). thanks

    hopetindall,

I use voip.ms voicemail, and I setup system that plays back a DTMF so that it will takeover the call after 25 seconds, and send it to my voip.ms voicemail.

In this case, i can use both RON and my voip.ms voicemail :^)

    thanks cloneman,

interesting - I'm using voip.ms for my voicemail too.

Just to confirm - your setting up you voicemail as a 'reach me' type destination. Does it 'ring' concurrently with your other destinations (which is what I'm trying to accomplish) and pickup if none of the other numbers pick-up.

While I've done something similar to what you describe above on my own asterisk box (for inbound Google Voice calls, my asterisk box answers, sends a DTMF down the pipe before sending the call to an extension at my house) - I've never been able to figure out how to setup voip.ms to do this.

Could you share more details of your setup?

    thanks,

So I've got my voip.ms set to ring to a SIP account, (which rings concurrently)

then, the failover for the DID ("Routing if Destination No Answer") is an IVR menu. The IVR menu "greeting" is a DTMF tone followed by a transfer to voicemail

In my case, it plays DTMF 8, followed by a message that says "press zero to leave a message"
I do this so people aren't forced to leave message.

here's some wave files I found on the internet to use for the greeting.
    http://dl.dropbox.com/u/570792/dtmf_wavs.rar

    And heres mine
    http://dl.dropbox.com/u/570792/DTMF8_silence.WAV
I added tiny bit of silence before the DTMF, a doorbell sound, and generic greeting.
I don't know how reliable this workaround is, it seems to work so far.

    many thanks cloneman.

I've always had bad luck using recordings of DTMFs - but I'll give this a try.

    thank you.

    Hi Hopetindall,

There are no charges for using the reach me functionality or using the call forwarding feature within RON. When RON is activated, traditional call forwarding features on your phone are replaced with the reach me rules.

    Hope this helps

After using RON for a few weeks, here is something that is bugging me... As long as a call is picked up on a different phone, the webphone will display "Missed call". You'd think the webphone would be smart enough to know that another phone picked up the call.
    Rogers:
    Unlimited Canada-wide calling, 2500 sent SMS - $35; 6GB Data - $30 less $10; Call Fwd/xfr - N/C; Local UMA - N/C; Value Pak - $10

    Moblicity:
    $23 BTS

That's unfortunate, as I am sure a lot of us would like to be able to adjust call forwarding features from our phone, or at least being able to do so through some sort of app.
Mikey: Look, we're gonna spend half the night driving around the Hills looking for this one party and you're going to say it sucks and we're all gonna leave and then we're gonna go look for this other party. But all the parties and all the bars, they all suck. I spend half the night talking to some girl who's looking around the room to see if there's somebody else who's more important she should be talking to. And it's like I'm supposed to be all happy 'cause she's wearing a backpack, you know? And half of them are just nasty skanks who wouldn't be nothing except they're surrounded by a bunch of drunken horny ×××××××s. And I'm gonna tell you something T. Are you listening?
    Trent: Yeah, I'm listening.
Mikey: I'm not gonna be one of those ×××××××s. Alright? It just makes me sick. It's like, some nasty skank who isn't half the woman my girlfriend is, is gonna front me? It makes me want to ××××in' puke!

Yeah, I agree. There isn't an app, but you can adjust from the webapp.

Yeah but that particular web page is not very mobile-friendly.

Just got a text from Rogers introducing new call management features, such as call blocking!

Pretty amazing. Using the Cydia app "Call Block" was one of the few remaining reasons for me to want to Jailbreak.
