I know the Google aquisition of Motorola Mobility is still not finalized, but I just thought I'd try to ask for some 'insider' info here.
The Motorola A855 was the last Android phone built by Motorola that IMHO is worth a damn. Why? Because it is a developer phone without an encrypted bootloader. But it put Android on the map. Why? Because it is a developer phone without an encrypted bootloader. The bad news is that too many people messed up and instead of trying to fix it, (IMHO) they just returned their A855's to VZW for replacements causing Motorola to take the path they do now, encrypted bootloaders.
Now I have been closely following the Samsung i515 (LTE Galaxy Nexus) since it is the next developer phone to be released on VZW, but from what I have read from those who have the engineering devices, Samsung phones' radio quality still pales in comparison to a Motorola phone.
So here I am, still using the A855 after more than two years, thinking about defecting from batwings to a Sammy; but putting out any feelers I can in hopes of a true Google experience device made by Motorola soon.
TIA

1st oir 2nd qtr next year? Is that for the finalization of the buy, or for a release of a Motorola Developer phone, i.e. without encrypted bootloader?
The source is probably Blackmannx as he has been doing some tweeting about it.

I'm all for a Moto developer phone also. Just hoping subsequent Moto's take a turn to a bit more traditional configuration that is more ergonomic and has replaceable battery and such. I WILL NOT return to Motorola if they continue to make only paper thin slabs a mile wide with screens smaller than similar sized slabs that might be a hair thicker. Would like the Aluminum and Kevlar and such with the radio performance and unlocked nature, but not at the cost of everything else that is the RAZR form factor today. If the RAZR had a 5" screen and was no more of a slab I would be content.
I just want Motorola to release another phone on par with the A855, but with up to date hardware, etc. And I am not liking the non-replaceable battery AT ALL. When the A855 was being hyped that was part of what "DROID DOES"; have a replaceable battery that iDon't.
Damn forgot to ask about removable batteries

and sd support. I can live without the removable battery but the SD support is non negotiable IMO.
