bought myself a public mobile max last week and have gotten everything i want up and running aside from wireless tethering. tethering via usb is working fine, which is definitely a plus point, but without root i obviously can't tether wirelessly, which is really what i'm looking for
ive tried a few different approaches, but none of them have proven to be successful. has anyone managed to root their device yet? and if so how?
root issues aside, im actually quite happy with the phone. battery life is dreadful out of the box, but with a few startup modifications and program blocks im getting longer out of it than i did out of my iphone, which definitely isnt bad at all
Can you install QPST and see if you can access the Service Settings?
25GB Cap? DIY Telnus prepaid/Koodo unlimited EVDO internet (for $10 per 2 months, to keep account "Active"), Max 3Mbps download speed, if you roam on Bell (free), then you get non-NATed IP

HoFo = censorship same as US censor wikileaks = china censor
doesnt work. when you enter the 3778 code you get notification that the epst service has unexpectedly closed
just curious, why did you pick the max (an unknown phone) rather than the zte one?
zte is at least somewhat brand name.
also you might want to get rid of the wifi app that gets installed by default... i heard it'll auto-connect you to any open wifi network
It doesn't matter what brand as long as
1) QPST port opens
2) can be rooted
PM will carry brands that are unheard of because the customers can't afford the branded ones. ie: branded ones would be too expansive to sell. Telus and Bell did that before with CDMA phones and failed, so they went HSPA
i went for the max because, having seen the specs of both, i decided it was better for what i wanted it for. brand name doesnt matter to me once i can
a) tether it
and
b) get reasonable battery life out of a charge
and i get both out of this, unfortunately i still havent gotten the rooting nailed
the easy wifi thing does indeed connect you to open wifi networks, but startup auditor fixes that pretty quickly
how did it you get it to tether with usb?
I'm curious about it too. Another question btw:
Is there a way to use the sd disk as the installation directory as apposed to the crummy storage that it comes with? I swear after 5 apps, I gotta start playing favorites with the apps I already installed.
Has anyone tried the following link to root the MAX phone? It's a generic 2.3.4 android rooting.
I am too chicken to try and screwup my phone.

So you absolutely sure that this method I mention above will not render your phone unusable?
I have the Max and I love it. I don't know what tethering or rooting means. Should I for this phone? My problem is trying to download stuff on it. It asks me if I want to use the storage space and I click yes but nothing happens and I can't seem to do anything else! Can anyone help me?
Thanks!
Kelly 😄
Tethering is not required. Only if you want to have a Laptop use your data 3G to surf the internet when wifi is not available or do some other out of the ordinary tricks on your phone. It's a bit dangerous because if things go bad, there is no way to really recover. To install applications, just install it normally and then in the settings-->applications->manage applications, you can move the application over to the SD card after installation. Try that.
I have tried a few rooting methods, nothing works on this MAX phone. So I guess we are stuck with being none rooted. Thats OK I guess.
Bump! It seems like the MAX is technically better than the N762... but can it be rooted?
