I was with Wind and Mobi and as far as I'm concerned they are the same.

What I have learned is what I don't like about them both.

I no longer care about locked phones because I will buy unlocked and unbranded so I get updates quicker. For my 5230 Mobi had an update and Wind didn't but it's still an update behind.

Mobi's traffic shaping and port blocking is the main reason I would switch. I would rather watch the news than youtube for the same amount of bandwidth - but I can't. It makes no sense.

    I pay $23/mo - Wind can't match it. So I won't be switching. I'm not interested in a 1 year or 6 mo deal.

I'm not worried about grabbing a lifetime plan before it's gone. They keep coming back and if they don't - I'll choose what is best at the time.

It may be Shaw wi-fi - who knows? Or I may threaten Telus that I'll drop my Optik, internet and phone unless they give me a super deal on a phone plan.

But I'll give Mobi until my wallet is empty to prove themselves. That is another 8 months.

Well. I'm happy I didn't port to WIND. This was my Speedtest result on WIND at my apartment in fairly downtownish Toronto (Jarvis and Wellesley)... (I wish I could make it say the service provider's name but the only graphic I'm finding at the moment lacks that). Both tests were on my Panache:

    http://www.speedtest.net/android/115498564.png

0.96 Mb down, 0.05 Mb up

    Versus this on Mobi:

    http://www.speedtest.net/android/115500617.png

2.17 Mb down, 0.40 Mb up.

Wow. And people were complaining about Mobilicity speeds.
The word 'Pentaband' means '5 Bands', from the Greek word 'pente' meaning '5'. For a phone to be pentaband it has to support 5 bands. If the phone has AWS support, it doesn't automatically mean that it is pentaband.

Don't send me PMs for questions that can be asked publicly.

lol that's why i'm still with mobi. i'm 5 around minutes south- east of you. like i said' wind's data absolutely sucks around this area. combine with mobi' voice quality i can't justify making the switch (never mind mentioning) my mobi plan is cheaper. to me it's a no brainer.

put your wind sim in your shoe box (that's were my sim is now is now resting) and feeding it some cash every now and then. maybe one day i'll give it some light.

I'm with Mob's 25$ BTS, I'll probably go up to 33$ soon since I'll need voicemail. Anyways, I think the call quality In Ottawa-Gatineau is great imo, just as good as when I was with Telus. Customer service is actually great (I've sent an e-mail last nice and got a call the next morning with a nice lady that helped me). I'm actually very happy right now overall, the only thing I dont know is how good the data speeds are here in the capital since I haven't bought a smartphone yet.

Curious to know if anyone can compare Mobi and Wind in Ottawa and Gatineau.

I'll get a smartphone soon. I'm kinda sad to hear you have to pause videos on youtube. Anyways, I'll see exactly how fast it is here when I get a new phone in a couple of month (Im not in a hurry to buy anything yet, so I'm just waiting for something that really catches my eye, probably the Samsung galaxy S3.

I had to give up 2 lines of $33 F&F by switching to Wind.
It was sad to see the unbeatable plan gone forever, as I also saw some people selling this plan for some good profit on kijiji...but we did not want to lose our numbers..so no choice..
Mobilicity's F&F and BTS plans are not going to be matched in the future.

My best friend just switched both his lines to Wind.
He gave up his 2 for $69- and is saying he can tell the difference right away on data speeds and saying he doesn't hear any difference in voice quality whatsoever.

That's not enough time to make a proper comparison.

Give the person a month and then let them decide.

I didn't experience the half duplex issue in the beginning either but when it does happen it's very annoying. It generally happens for lengthier calls and unlucky for me, most of my calls are long.

The data speed variability I experienced as soon as I put in my SIM card. Speed tests were generally on the low end and was pretty disappointed.

Two of my friends could not take it anymore with wind's data. They use Skype from phone and it was borderline unusable. They actually got a mobi sim and Skype works perfect for them now.

I would say data speed is about the same level, at least for me.
Mobilicity's speed is rather on the low end, but much more stable than Wind, mostly averaging 500-1000kbps.
Wind's speed has a wider range, achieving between less than 300kbps and almost 3000kbps (not a spike, speedtest consistently showed this speed for several tests).
To me, the more important factor is that Wind actually gives me 3-4 bars at my workplace, where Mobilicity's signal was practically useless (0-1 bar, and calls would just drop during the conversation for losing the 1 bar). Data use was basically impossible, even sending a single message on IM app woula take forever, half of the time failing to send eventually.

I don't stream audio/video. As long as I can browse web, use google maps, and do stuff like facebook/IM, I am satisfied.
I would have to use Skype, but only at home with home wireless internet..so no issue there.

So, basically, I can't say which is better. It just depends on which one actually serves better for you.

BTW, My Nexus S would not send unicode messages to non-Mobilicity phones (all texts showed broken on the other end's phone), but now it works fine on Wind network. I thought it would be just my phone, but now I can confirm it is actually both Nexus S (my wife's NS had the same problem) AND Mobilicity network.

Yup the only reason I'm with Wind is the reception works much better than Mobilicity in the places I'm at frequently.
And in the end of the day, phone with reception is better than one with no service.

I have no problem coming back to Mobi, but their lack of expansion details (even if its rough) and the joke of a 'densification' year (too little placement of towers to dedicate a whole year too! and deadzones are still dead) will be their roadblock for me to port back.
