Of course the real question becomes "what happens if you actually try to USE all your rollover data"? If the rumored 100 MByte/day 2Gb/month thresholds are enforced, then other than bragging rights, it might not be worth much.

And yes, I am a Red Pocket user, the only thing keeping me from jumping to the Straighttalk BYOD plan (different topic in this Forum) is the data rollover on RP. So at the very least RP users have an incentive - real or imagined - of sticking around.

That's a good point. What good is having 5GB+ of data if the threshold of 2GB is enforced.

Unfortunately, its doubtful I will ever find out, as I don't use that much on my cell though I could thru tethering, which I don't want to try using that much data since tethering isn't supported which brings up another issue.
Would it matter how you "spent" your allotted 2GBs be it tether or on the phone. 2GB is 2GB.

When I had Att post paid I had a heated discussion with them about them blocking tethering on the 2GB plan I was on at the time.
I would say, what's the difference?
All they said is, "we are concerned that you might go over and incur a huge bill". Concerned? HA!

Anyways if Red Pocket is giving the rollover data and there is an enforced threshold, it would be kinda irrelevant to have even given rollover in the first place.

Well I will find out when I refill next time, will use whatever data rolls over plus the new 2GB before the end of that [next] cycle.

I guess I don't care whether there is rollover or not, a nice perk if it truly is. I'm more relieved that the 2GB can be used string-free instead of like ST where you have to look over your shoulder every day for some invisible and unspoken restrictions on a supposedly 'Unlimited' plan.

Pabster, that sums up my thoughts exactly about why I don't nor will use Straight Talk. Kinda a contradiction of their name huh? Straight Talk.

Just this past Thursday I was working away from home where I had no Internet access. I had to upload photos to a site for client viewing and an album design to be printed (I'm a photographer). I had to get it done so I tethered to my iPhone. I used about 1.2 gigs in about 45 mins (it was a lot of pix) without one problem! I didn't even realize how much I had used until later that night I checked. I had about 3.7gigs in total including the rolled over data. Still going strong with about 2.4gigs left until 3/11/12. Yea, I'll pay the extra $15 premium over ST any day, all day until I see the downside here lol.

I would like to clarify and say that not all 1.2 gigs were used in "uploading" photos. But a lot came from "downloading" photos from my server to design the album and then upload back to another site. The files uploaded maybe totaled about 500mb in total.

Oh and the supposed "throttled" speed was super fast!! As I said, this was all done in about a 45 min time frame

Hope you didn't push all that over EDGE it would be painful!

I've seen no evidence to support the claims some are making that Red Pocket throttles data. And I know throttling as I've experienced it with several providers, including AT&T under GoPhone in the past.

With EDGE it would be 45 DAYS instead of mins lol! Fortunately, no, it was over 3G. UNfortunately where I actually live there is no 3G service

I live in a city with roughly 300,000 people with 2 exits off of the interstate leading here and no 3G coverage. Yet, I can go about 45 mins away to a town of about 25,000 people more than 40 miles from the interstate and have excellent 3G service... It just ain't right! oh well *shrugs*

Oh I feel ya. I'm stuck in EDGE-land most of the time as well. Yet I can travel (literally) 10 mins in either direction and have rock-solid 3G for many, many miles. I'm hoping AT&T gets the memo as it seems this particular tower is one of very few left in this area still operating on EDGE but I'm not holding my breath. (T-Mo affiliate is EDGE-only here as well.)

Yea, I've just accepted it and moved on with my life lol. I travel enough in 3G areas for it not to be that big of a deal for me anymore. But one day... one day!

Has anyone confirmed that this roll-over data situation is intended, i.e. is this the way it is supposed to be, or just something that got screwed up and that they will undoubtedly fix?

I did a chat with RP CS like 3 times to confirm their data rolls over, each time they said yes. I refilled today with a Callingmart refill, I only get the 250mb plan, and when I renewed my data rolled over, adding 250mb to my existing balance. One thing the CSR did tell me is that if you change plans when renewing your data will reset--like going from a $59 to $49 a month plan. So, FYI.

So far RP has been great, unless they go south like h2o, I'll probably stay with them, even over the new ST sim plan that's now out there.
