They will enable T-Mobile to deploy LTE services in a number of markets where such deployment would otherwise have been impossible and to enhance its LTE service in a number of markets where T-Mobile would have otherwise been limited to a 5x5 MHz LTE deployment. As such, the TMUS Transaction will empower T-Mobile to compete with Verizon Wireless’ and other carriers’ LTE services more effectively.
    5x5 MHz LTE deployment isn't a limitation at all, it's a start.
They could have started small like 3x3 MHz and then gone after SpectrumCo or shake down Verizon Wireless when it was first announced they were going to make a play for SpectrumCo. Both MetroPCS and Cricket started small during their initial LTE rollouts. Running LTE and HSPA+ parallel to each other would have afforded T-Mobile USA a small head start, instead of starting next year when the three remaining wireless carriers will be nearly done with LTE.

The only problem is there's really nothing left over in these markets on AWS where 5x5 would have been the limit. It would have either been no LTE (like Birmingham, AL with just 10MHz of AWS being used for HSPA+) or a max of 10MHz like they said before with no room for growth. They'd have to refarm PCS for LTE and have mixed band network to deploy any LTE in certain markets. Apparently now they can deploy LTE to 260 million vs something like 220 million before. So now they at least have 10MHz of extra AWS to deploy LTE-A where they couldn't before or would only be able to do 5x5MHz.
LTE has arrived. The third carrier in Las Vegas with 10x10 LTE coverage

Coverage will expand to 100 million LTE pops for the first half of 2013, with the second half of 2013 expanding to 200 million POPs covered. Release 10 LTE (2×10, 2×20) will be better performing than all other competitors.
T-Mobile USA. “This year, we’re stepping on the gas again. We are making continued coverage improvements and launching an advanced LTE network

This is more blatantly false information about T-Mobile having LTE Rel 10 service. You have posted no source for this as Milan03 quickly pointed out. The only thing you can cite is that T-Mobile is installing Release 10 compatible equipment. Nowhere have they said the service next year will be Release 10.

Furthermore, a chart has already been posted showing the max speed of 5x5MHz is 37. Where's your source that it will be as high as 70? I haven't seen you post one.

Today the whole way down Spring Mountain in Las Vegas from Hualapai all the way to the strip there's 3G.
That's like nearly 10 miles of 3G without a break in coverage in 3G.

The Ft Apache and Sahara tower has seen a reduction in coverage for me. It's gotten slightly stronger over the past few days tho. Along the 15 heading north you can pretty much maintain a solid HSPA signal on PCS. On the way back my iPhone was on EDGE for a bit.

You can get 1900MHz all the way from rainbow and the 215 down to Charleston too. Haven't gone down further but it seems like when they announced Las Vegas they activated a ton of sites. Glad to see it. HSPA coverage at the Charleston CSN campus is now better.
