Can time to VM forwarding be changed?

I've read that I can have calls forwarded, and that I can change how long my phone rings before those calls are forwarded to a different number, but can I change the time (or how many times my phone rings) before it is forwarded to voice mail? I tried doing that, but wasn't given the option of determining how many seconds can pass before going to voice mail. As it is now, my phone rings 5 times before going to VM. I'd like it to only be 2 or 3 rings, (or about 10 seconds).

You have to use GSM network codes to change the settings yourself. The instructions are here: http://www.cellular.co.za/gsm_hash_code.htm
You have to find out your Voicemail Deposit Number and enter that number where shown in place of the example number shown in this section:
RINGS UNTIL ANSWERED BY YOUR VOICEMAIL
Be advised that in spite of the heading, you are actually changing the delay time and not the number of rings before the call goes to voicemail. If your ringtones are long, you might only hear one ring before voicemail kicks in. You should keep your ringtone to ten seconds or less. The maximum limit is thirty seconds in five-second increments. Enter the entire number including the "+1xxx" prior to the seven digit number. You do not need to put in dashes or parentheses.

Very interesting! Is this good in the United States? The phone number example given on the site is +27-82-131-987-6543 which doesn't resemble a US number which is more like 1-xxx-xxx-xxxx. Also, the site has a suffix of "za", which indicates South Africa. I guess my question now is whether or not this information is applicable in the United States.
