Read about talkatone. Devs did homework, they actually compress audio to make it more usable on cell internet. So it's not direct connection to google voice, it's through their servers. And next part is that while it's preview it's free but what happened when they release it?

The iOS version is free so I'd think Android's would be as well. They have a premium version that costs money.

If so, that would be completely awesome!

I know there's a small charge to port my cell number to GV and I'd be willing to pay it if I could keep getting free minutes.

My last question is if I port my # to GV, does that mean anytime someone calls that number, I can choose between having T-Mobile handle the call and use my monthly minute allotment or choose to have Groove IP handle it?

Interesting! Are you using alpha4? Please post your "call quality" settings.
    TIA

Exhibit II and tried your settings with a specific version sent me by Talkatone. S/B the same as alpha4 but specific for Exhibit II echo delay of 250ms.

Works pretty well. I'm going to try the "Short" jitter buffer setting to see if conversation is still good enough quality. It should reduce the delay which is currently just enough to be noticeable.

Maybe try that too and report back. Thx

How did you get this "specific version"? I'm still playing with settings too. Will post if I get some that work better.

I emailed suport and told them that there was no mic gain control to be able to reduce echo and that should help. The sent me the following with an Exhibit II specific version:

This is misconception about sensitivity of mic on Galaxies.
This is just hardware design flaw when audio card feeds back the speaker sound to mic - you can try it out yourself: no matter how you isolate speaker (cover it up) the echo will still be there. This means echo is coming from internals (probably insulation on wires is not enough - Samsung saved couple pennies).

Moreover, lowering mic gain wouldn't work = we have audio pre-processing which would annihilate any effect from lowering mic gain. The only thing which works is finding out proper echo patch delay to cancel echo. (we actually pushed echo settings from server, but it may take a while to propagate).

Anyway, we have exhibit II, so we adjusted the settings, so please try the build attached (you have to have Software Echo Cancellation enabled).

To install you need to manually uninstall existing build first and then install attached one.
Here's a link for the Exhibit II build if you want it: EXHIBIT II ONLY

I tried shortening the jitter buffer but that make the conversation stuttery so went back to prior settings.
