SH-01D can be factory unlocked. I doubt he's using a hypersim given how the SH-01D is a microSIM device and thus there are no hypersims available for it.
Since you have the phone already, if its not too much to ask, can you make a mini review? I wonder how the screen of this phone compares with Samsung's Super AMOLED screen... thanks!
I'm using this phone on Rogers Canada, and everything (3G, calling, voicemail, caller id, etc.) works perfectly as though it was a native phone. The biggest thing I don't like is how the built-in voicemail (it's called "call ans memo" on the phone) is only in Japanese so to use English voicemail, you have to turn that one off and call your own number to access Rogers voicemail. There is no notification that you have a voicemail so you have to check every time you miss a call in case there is one.
Another thing I don't like is how the camera program has no zoom... but I think there might be apps that can replace the camera so it's not that big of a deal. The default music player also skips every now and then, but again, this can be solved by downloading a music player app of the market.
I'm not sure how the screen compares to other phones, but I think the colors and resolution are beautiful. 3D looks really nice too.
There is no need for a Hypersim since Docomo can unlock it for you (if you're buying online, make sure the seller stated it's unlocked").
If you have any more questions about this phone, I'll be happy to help.

I agree. The AQUOS displays that Sharp uses in their products are really stunning.

Thanks for that great review, I have more questions though, if you have time please help me out:
1. How is the battery life? How long does it last?
2. How much did you bought it for and can you pm me how much?
3. How is the image quality from the default camera?
4. Does the camera take 3D pictures as well?
5. Can you use the front camera for video calling using Skype, GTalk or Yahoo Messenger?
6. Does it heat up when in-use for several hours or on heavy load?
7. Is your phone rooted? I've been researching about it and it seemed like you can actually root it
8. How fast is the data speed like? Can it use HSPA/HSDPA?
9. When zooming on the browser, does it lag?
This is a very long list but I will be very eager to read your answers on my questions, I'm looking forward to but the Indigo Blue one for my birthday
