Ask any Blue collar and they will tell you just how many fleetnet radios are in every vehicle and attached to the side of every member province wide. I would say huge profit.

Guess what they are trying to sell ? if you think support on cellular is bad try getting something complicated resolved with the Mobile Radio side of MTS.

Agreed. And the service for fleetnet is great. We've been running them for years and have never had issues with service.
Yes i am referring to Fleetnet that is the non-cellular part of MTS mobility that apparently MTS has been interested in selling for quite some time now. Have not heard any rumors of MTS interested in selling the cellular portion of mobility.
In Approximately 3 years Motorola is pulling the plug on support for the current APCO 16 system that MTS uses for Fleetnet and will only be supporting the newer digital standard APCO25. This will mean almost all of their current customers will have to upgrade their radio's and MTS will have to upgrade all of their sites. considering that right now APCO 25 radio's are about 3 times the price of APCO 16 radio's i would suspect that a lot of their current customers will not be too happy. MTS is discussing with their major customers to see what direction they are going to go. Their major customers are the RCMP, The Province of Manitoba and The City Of Winnipeg. plus a few other corporate customers. they used to have Shaw as well but when they went into TV Shaw dropped them and went to another supplier for their radio network.
Hopefully that day will be a long time out. The day I have to invest in 20+ new radios is the day I figure something else out. Until then, I'll keep buying used radios from the states for cheap. Good old Ebay.
When Motorola cuts off support for APCO 16 MTS will not have access to repair parts so when a Fleetnet site goes down they will have nothing to fix it with so it looks like something will have to happen before that or MTS will be in trouble. Some of the newer radio's from Motorola are firmware upgradeable to the new system but most are not and that is why they are showing up for cheap. a fairly large percentage of the US systems that where the same as what MTS has have already been changed out for newer systems. I don't expect Motorola to extend support any more than what they have already as they have extended it a couple of times already. The current cut off date is looming closer than a lot of people think.
