    Speedtest anyone?

I've never seen an MTS speedtest done on the fake 4G network. I've heard lots of complaints about how slow it is. So, fanboys, this is your calling. Either shut me up or agree with me.

It really all depends on your location and how many Base Band Unit splits and carriers the cell tower can support based off the number of users. I have noticed that I tend to get way better speeds out in the rural areas opposed to in highly populated cities. (And when I say rural I am talking about a population of less than 300 people and a real tower with a fiber backbone not repeater towers) In the rural I typical get 4.33 Mbps down and 2.41 Mbps up (this is way better than my home DSL connection gets on MTS) and in cities I am lucky to get over 1.20 Mbps down and .30 Mbps up with bad ping times over 500 ms.

This is just my experience and it seams to be very similar with SaskTel network as well. I did notice my Galaxy Nexus gets better speeds than my Nexus S but it has a better radio that supports HSPA+ instead of just UMTS. Really its more of a 3.5G+ network in Canada not true 4G

I did a few phone by phone comparisons, my iPhone 4 on Rogers vs my friend's iPhone 4S on MTS, we tried both the Speedtest.net and xtreme labs speedtest in Brandon. My iPhone 4 was generally faster download than his 4S, I got 4mbps down, .85mbps down, while he got 3.2mbps down, .9mbps down.

Just outside Birds Hill Park, I was lucky to ever get over .5mbps up/down, and on a family member's MTS internet stick, it was usually just as bad.

Oh here half an hour south of Virden, the MTS tower has been inaccessible to MTS/Rogers customers since June for internet, so when it does work, it gives a ping of 2000 ms, and speeds of .02mbps either way.
Man gets hit by Brick Phone! Ouch!

The truth is that the data connection is painfully slow and not worthy of being called 4G. It's bad everywhere you go, even in the middle of Winnipeg on a good day. MTS just doesn't have what it takes to be a big boy.

You were warned once about being nothing but a troll in these forums. Post reported.

    Also, your post is inaccurate.

No HSPA+ network is worthy of being called 4G. That's why every handset displays 3G and H+ on an HSPA+ network.

The only handsets I've ever seen with a 4G icon are handsets using LTE.

The carriers can call the network 982393G if they want, it won't change anything.

Everyone knows Bell, Telus and Rogers are all full of it with their "4G" networks. This is no mystery. So stop trying to cause ruckus.

The Nexus s will do HSDPA/HSUPA it idles on 3g and switches when in use. On the older KB3 radio I have done 3.0 Mbps upstream and 5 down all day long. I have battled my friend on Telus time and time again and I will be the first to admit Telus is a little bit faster, But I can run speed tests all day long and not worry about being Charged.

My brother on Telus Iphone asked my other brother on MTS Iphone how much data he has used as my brother on Telus was up to 400 mb. My brother on MTS said 8.5gb.

Its like Shaw vs MTS. The faster your internet the faster you reach your data cap. Oh wait No MTS products have data caps LOL.

Telus 7Mbps in the center of Winnipeg is okay. Checking my emails all summer long at Grand Beach on MTS priceless.

EDIT: Image doesn't seem to be coming up, so it was 5.89mbps / 1.2mbps

Not that I want to feed the troll, but that's my result this morning in the East Kildonan area... and my phone tops out at 7mbps anyways...

    Derfel,

I guess I should have been more specific; I'm not so much interested in speeds of 3G devices, as my iPhone 3GS on Rogers has reached similar speeds in the past (before MB network merge)

I assumed it was a given that we're talking about 4G devices.

Either way dude, you have serious issues. Chill out a little, you act like MTS is your mentally challenged 3 year old girl. It's o.k to be critical without needing to be "fed as a troll??"

You've been warned before regarding trolling threads such as these, and using terms like "fanboy" and such. You would think you would just up and leave for the Telus forum.

Can somebody tell me how much the signal bars fluctuate on your phone on the Rogers/MTS network in Winnipeg?
