You can see your total data usage by going in your account where they itemize the usage for data. On the last page of the itemization, they list how much data that you've used.

Also, I think it used to show data usage on the bill summary each month.
Below is my data usage for 2011. Is this someone who would be any worse off on a 4G plan and really needs TZones? (Trust me, I don't want to give them up!)

I'm guessing the high points during summer are from Google Maps app GPS usage being and out about in the city... or even leaving the app on overnight by accident, which I've done a few times. I don't stream video/radio content, but suppose I could...

Obviously with usage like that, you would fit under the 2GB cap. However, if you get a 4G phone, you may use data faster and need a 5GB plan instead.

    Jet,

I received a letter from the Tmobile business rep:

Thank you for contacting T-Mobile Business Accounts.

The Business Value Plans are great plans when you don’t need discounts on New Handsets.
The data portion is 5gb of 4G service and Unlimited WIFI and Edge Service after 5gb of Usage.

The plan is not compatible with TZone or any other data services.

The plan will require 2 year contract and if you have contract remaining on your numbers now, you’ll have to pay the “Migration Fees” to switch over.
The amount of Migration Fees depends on the length of the contract remaining.

Please let me know if you have any other questions.

I agree that I'd probably use data faster with better phone, so the 5GB cap probably works just fine. I read on another forum that the iPhone 5 might be coming to Tmobile. Does the iPhone work on 4G? I thought it only worked on 2G or 3G at most.

The current iphone only works on T-Mobile's 2G. Before they sell it on T-Mobile they would add T-Mobile's 3G/4G frequency. No confirmation on if and when they will sell it.

So... would 4G service slow down to 3G speeds on a 3G phone?

Or would 4G service not even work on a 3G dumbphone?

That kind of helps with my decision.

(Thank you for your time and patience over the months, btw, Jet! You've been incredibly helpful!)

On all data plans, all 3G/4G devices that are connected to T-Mobile network work at the fastest possible data speed when factoring in the device speed limit and the network capability at that location. The device is only slowed when the plan throttle is reach. No matter what the name of the data plan, it seems to have no effect on the speed.

I apologize to any one who read my previous post and signed up for the $30 100minute 5gb data plan with the intention of using Groove IP. Since my post I have had nothing but problems and I have tried every adjustment to the settings. The sound quaity is awful using fast 4G or fast wifi. Tech support does respond by email only but not at all helpful. Gvoice has slightly better but still unusable call quality and worse Googe Voice integration.
Since your data needs are modest why not go with the unlimited talk, text and 100 mb web soft cap prepaid plan for $50.
