Data usage up and I'm not sure why

I have an Incredible with the $29.95 plan. I was fooling at some settings a little while back and now there is the
"uploading data" icon at the top of my phone which was never there before. Then I went over on my data limit this month and I had not used it any more than usual. I went back to my settings but can't get rid of the icon. It isn't animated but is that causing the data usage and how do I shut it off? TIA.

Don't worry. That icon appearing doesn't mean that your edge or data is being used. It is only temporary and will go away after two or three restarts.
