    Future Republic Wireless Phones

    Hello,

I am currently using Virgin Mobile USA for my phone service. I use a Samsung Intercept and it is not that great of a phone. I want to switch to Republic Wireless once it becomes available to me, but I was wondering if anyone has heard any news about any future Republic Wireless phones. The Optimus S is pretty similar to the phone I have, and I want a good upgrade since I don't get a new phone very often. This is why information on their next phone is important to me. If you know of their next phone, or any other news relating to it please post it in this forum.

    Thanks!

I hope the Republic Wireless forums start becoming very active soon because I'm very interested in the service and will probably be switching as soon as they get another device. I love the concept. Use WiFi, and the more WiFi you usr the more 3G you can use. That's a very smart and cost effective method. I see the company being very promising. Maybe I'll go on their forums on the site and ask people to head here. But anyway, I don't know what devices they're getting. You can head over to their website at republicwireless.com, click on forums and go to suggestions and go to the future phone suggestion thread and make some suggestions. They really do listen and the employees do read the forums.

I'll be sure to go to their website and do that. I hope they get a Motorola or HTC on their network. If they get one of those, I'm in!

Samehere. I just want a really nice, high-end or mid-end device. We were talking on the forums saying they should have a tier phone for each kinda user. Low end: The Optimus V, Mid End, & High End. One device for each. I kinda like that. So it won't be a need to want to keep upgrading because they keep releasing endless devices throughout the months.

That would be a good idea, and it would save me some time online looking for the next phone.

I'd guess the SGSII would be next, but that's just a guess. They might so a regular SGS as a midrange, or one of the various HTC phones that all look the same. I'd guess against Motorola, as all of Moto's good stuff goes to Verizon, but that's just a guess.
I usually support government regulation, but It is unfortunate that the government over-regulated and killed the AT&T/ T-Mobile Merger
The best explanation of the pricing nutiness in the industry.
Why Sprint and T-Mo will always suck.
The only way to end the pricing insanity is to eliminate contracts and subsidies.
I want Wifi calling on AT&T.
If you text while driving, you're an idiot. End of story.

You do have a point about Motorola. From my knowledge, only Virgin Mobile has a good Motorola phone. I'm sort of against Samsung phones, since the phone I currently use is a Samsung, and it is insanely slow..

Samsuck has a lot of issues, that's one of the reasons I switched to the iPhone. All the good Moto phones are on Verizon, AT&T and Sprint have halfway decent ones, the VM one, while awesome for prepaid, isn't really even a Moto phone, and it's not that great in overall Android terms.

There are some real questions as to wheather RW will ever come out of beta and be a real carrier. It seems that even the beta part of their plan(?) may not survive. So many of us have had honest questions that if answered are addressed in such a manner as to give no facts, only feelings. Such as: "We are really trying to give more service to our customers. In the near future there will be greater amounts of information distrubuted and more beta openings will be available." " Really really trying", Bunk. The only actual answer is that no service is available to anyone else and they have no idea as to when if ever it will be.

It sure is taking a while. It would be nice if they'd upset everyone a little more often.

I heard that Republic was considering opening up to the public in mid-January or in February, but still haven't heard anything from them. I'm hoping they open up, or give more info soon, my Samsung isn't getting any faster! I'm just waiting for them to open up, then I'm switching...

The Optimus One is nothing like the phone you have. The Samsung Intercept is absolute junk. The LG Optimus one is the workhorse of budget Androids.

RW has every chance of exiting Beta. They are backed by Bandwidth.com, which is one of the preeminent players in VOIP, and have been offering cellular service as part of one of their business packages for at least a year. They've integrated their VOIP network with Sprint. So, when you hit Send on the Cellular network, you go to a Sprint tower and then are handed off to Bandwidth's VOIP network for call routing. That's part of the reason that they can keep their costs so low.

If you look at the pricing model for Airvoice ($35 for 10,000 texts and 5,000 minutes), you can see that voice calling costs less than $.003 per minute today when AT&T delivers the calls. When using Sprint's network and routed through Bandwidth's VOIP/data network, the cost is very likely $.001 or cheaper. At that price range, you can easily be profitable at $20 per month.

Supposedly, Brian (the Pres of RW) is going to do a blog post in the next few weeks explaining exactly how it is that they can be profitable at $19 per month.
