Question A newb's first jailbreak- thanks and a couple of Q's

First off, I would like to thank Das Pike and Nuclearjack for their great links and help on the jailbreak. Also, cadsii and his great video. And last but not least, a big thank you to @pod2g

Anyways, I had to update my IP3Gs 32gb running 5.0 to 5.0.1 (BB 05.16.05 before & after update and after jb))
Was pretty leery of trying this myself. Especially since I am new to smartphones and new to Apple products as well and not really on the techy side. But instructions seemed simple enough, so I took the plunge last night. Used resn0w 0.9.10b1
I am happy to say it seems successful.

    I have a few questions-

FIXED- the cydia icon is white, is this normal? I seem to recall reading somewhere on here about this subject but cannot recall if it is a problem or if it is normal. Cydia does load though.

    - I updated from 5.0 to 5.0.1 but still had apps on the phone after the update. I am afraid I might have lost some space (created wasted space due to not doing a full restore). Though the math is correct - 28.3gb technically available, 6.3gb used, 22gb available. I still have the games on the phone even after the jailbreak. Is this ok? Or did I fudge up somewhere?

    - Now that I am jailbroke, do I not ever hook my phone back up to iTunes?

    - I have some ringtones on my iTunes, can I download them onto my phone after jailbreaking?

    - And are they any "must haves" apps out there?

    - And of course, any other advice is greatly appreciated.

A great big Thank You to all you guys again

Got cydia's icon fixed, was just a requested configuration update.

I am excited if you can't tell.
But have ran across something I should maybe mention. Before updating to 5.0.1 battery life was horrible (had heard there was a battery draining bug in there), updated to 5.0.1 battery life is better but still not like my IP3gs 16gb is. Is it possibly time for a new battery?
Also, I have seen winterboard and summerboard apps for customization... what is the differences, perks, problems, preference of each?
I am contemplating on doing this to my IP3gs 16gb now. But first want to get some help/advice on the rest of my questions above before attempting another jailbreak.

And to think, I almost paid $20 to have someone do the jailbreak for me

    Thanks

yea, seems like I am just accumulating the questions for you guys. lol
Still new to all this so bare with me please.

I read everywhere about "free apps" after jailbreaking but after looking through cydia a bit, I haven't found any free ones.
Where or how do you get free apps?
Someone once mentioned to me something about "cydia sources", where do you find this?

    Sorry for so many questions.

    Update:
From a little research, seems like my best option might be codegenocide for repo. I am looking for one that offers games, apps, ringtones & themes.
If you know of one better, please share.

You can sync with itunes. However, don't update.
I don't know what you mean by free apps. However, if you're talking about getting paid apps for free, that's called pirating. We won't help you when those pirated apps screw up your phone.

Oh :/ didn't know. The sites I have been looking at (for repo's) said they don't support pirated sources and another says it's for apps that Apple has declined and offers free hosting. Like I said I am new to all of this. How can one tell if something has been pirated, especially since Apple's app store also offers free games?
Just a confused newb trying to figure all this out. Don't want/mean to step on any toes or break any rules.
    Thanks

If it is a paid app in the Apple App Store that you can get for free, it is pirated. If it's paid Cydia apps that are available from repo that has cracked apps, then it is pirated.

Thanks for that clarification. I also heard that if you happen to try to download a crack/pirated it will also pop up with something letting you know it is illegal, is this correct?

Also, a new problem with my iPhone...
Did the jb the other day
Installed winterboard and 1 theme today
The phone had horrible battery life during 5.0
Still not great on 5.0.1 but slightly better.
So I let it completely die, since I had heard to do that once a month anyways to recalibrate.
It died and went to a green screen, plugged it in the wall... nothing but green screen and not charging.
But plugged it into my computer and it went away and was charging.
Both ways I hit the power and home button too.
Figure it has something to do with winterboard.
Is there a way to fix this? Or is my only hope to either uninstall winterboard or not let it die?
