Obtaining Galaxy Nexus for those with Wind (or at least not customers of Bell/Virgin)

I have not heard too much talk lately about people attempting to buy the Galaxy Nexus outright from Bell/Virgin retailer, so just wanted to feel out to see what people are settling on.

Since Bell/Virgin will not allow individuals to buy the GN outright, what have people been resorting to as alternate means in order to get the phone at the lowest cost possible?

It appears that getting it on Virgin Mobile's SuperTab may be the best bet from what I have gathered...

Selling at Virgin for $649.99, going on the $20 talk & text plan allows one to put $200 onto the SuperTab. This drops the upfront price to $449.99. HOWEVER, it was just brought to my attention by a Virgin employee earlier today that they are having a Boxing Week sale whereby you get an ADDITIONAL $100 off... so that brings the upfront cost to $349.99.

Now adding the cost of the $20 Talk and Text plan (which I would then CANCEL the very next day) as well as the 'tabbed' amount of $200, it brings the total cost to $549.99 + $20 (for 1 month's service).

So in the end, $596.99+tax equals $644.09 (in Ontario).

This seems like a pretty good deal to those who have full intentions of buying it outright, no? Am I missing anything or is this the absolute best deal around right now?

    thanks!

I was about to start this thread, LoL. I finally decided to get a GN and been looking for one today.

    Where are people getting theirs?

From what I gathered so far:

Costco won't sell me one, neither will Future Shop or Best Buy, The Source said no, and a fat girl at Wireless Wave got offended that I even brought it up.

    - Newegg.ca for 699+tax (free shipping, I think)
    - I've seen it in many phone shops in Pacific mall (Toronto) with prices ranging 650-750 (tax "included"), but I not willing to bite because I want a proper receipt. I have bad luck, my last two phones had to be replaced under warranty.
    - Virgin Mobile is willing to do it with a one month 20 plan thing and a tab. (They have very nice staff BTW, wow) But this $100 off boxing week sale wasn't mentioned to me, if this is indeed correct, it's the best deal by far.

    Other places?

I intend on doing this with Virgin tomorrow (Friday). Will let you guys know how it went and what other pertinent information/details may be helpful.

By the sounds of it though, with the extra $100 boxing week discount this is the BEST deal in my opinion!

Did you have to convince them to sell it to you outright or were they really chill and took no convincing?

I came to them, asked if they had the galaxy nexus in stock, when they said they did, then they asked if i wanted a 3 year contract, I said no. The guy wrote a slip and told me to take it to the cashier. Overall very "chill" and it was nice to finally be able to buy it, after all the "no's"

or you guys can just wait for a month for telus and rogers to get it. Wind/Mobi will get it too just give them a month or two. (also, if you wait the first 6 months, all the bugs are ironed out in that time AND the price drops)

I honestly haven't found any bugs on my galaxy nexus yet, have had it for about a week and its alot better then my nexus one(aside from the build of it, nexus one was a tank) The signal strength is fairly solid in most areas and it maintains the signal quite well. I've been testing Wind and Mobilicity with the phone. I dont see what benefit i could have gotten from getting the phone in 1 month from Rogers/Telus, either way i would have still had to pay $649 as i would not sign a contract. I'm doubting the price will drop alot on the phone maybe to $599 outright.

    Couple questions...

I thought Virgin was advertising a $50 discount and not $100? (good deal either way in my opinion)

When cancelling and having to pay off the tab, do they charge tax on the tab amount?

I already have mine. The Wireless Wave in Toronto Eatons Center sold me one outright on the first day. I just checked the Virgin website and it says you get a $50 value gift card? Doesn't mention anything about $100 off up front. Also if you add to cart you will see that they will pay up to $50 for your first month's plan. This could be the "$100 off" the guy was talking about.

I think it might be different in store. I think on RFD I saw several people mention $50 direct discount up front, making the phone $400+tax and $200 on tab, along with first month free.

So I got it from Virgin. They had a sign next to the GN display that said $50 credit, and the guy was able to use $25 toward the phone and gave me a free case. So I paid 425 + HST, and from my understanding I'll owe them 200 + 20 + HST for money on the tab and 1 month service after I cancel in January.

Virgin has really nice people, if the plan price difference wasn't to large, I think I would go there.

The phone is kind of huge, but not uncomfortably huge. After playing with it for half day, the Nexus S feels tiny. I definitely prefer the Nexus S form factor more, it's got to the most comfortable phone I've ever had, but the GN has significantly better specs, and I'll also not need a tablet.

Just want to report on my success today in getting myself the Galaxy Nexus

So I decided to get it from Virgin Mobile - definitely the lowest priced method I was able to find upon my two day search.

So I went on the $20 Talk and Text plan to be eligible for putting $200 of the $650 on the SuperTab. In addition, the extra $100 credit offered for boxing week sale brought the upfront cost to $350+tax. The salesman also threw in an Otter box case for free which was pretty sweet.

Add on the $200 on tab and that brings the total cost for the phone to $550+tax once I pay the SuperTab in full when I cancel. I think I will wait 14 days before cancelling, so the kind salesman gets his commission on the activation.

Just playing around with it now and I must say the phone is absolute amazing and worth the money!
