The cancellation process time takes 30 days to be effective ?
I'm planning to have my service canceled next week. When I look at my contract under "Ending Your Service",
it says " The termination will be effective 30 days from the date you make your request or on a later date if you request it."
Does that mean if I call in on Jan 01 to have my service canceled, my line will be still active until Feb 01 and I'll have to pay one more month ?
Speak with a customer service agent, and ask for an extra month charges to be removed. If an agent refuses, ask for a conversation log number, and wish them a good day. Re-dial, and speak with another agent. If unsuccessful, get the log number, and hang up.
Now you have enough to proceed with a CCTS complain.
File a complaint with CCTS, saying that you refuse to pay for 30 days of "dead air" and no service. Let them know that you spoke with 2 agents, and provide conversation log numbers.
Very shortly afterwards, you will have these charges reversed, or, if you have made a payment already, you will get a check in the mail.
Hey there. This is Talli and I work here at Virgin Mobile. We have a 30-day cancellation policy, so yes, your services will be cancelled 30 days after you request the cancellation and you'll be paying for your last month of service.
If you have any questions at all, shoot me an email at hello@virginmobile.ca and I'll help you out.
Just plan to leave and port your number 30 days after you ask to cancel!
They have to provide the service for those 30 days if they want to charge you!
They can't charge you for something they didn't provide however they do have the right to 30 days notice.
No carrier really charges you the actually 30 days. They charge up up until your next billing cycle. So lets say for example your billing cycle was on the 5th of every month and you cancelled now, you would only be charged up to the 5th (which you technically already paid for with your last bill). Once my billing cycle was on the 2nd of the month and I cancelled on the 28th and only got "charged" up till the 2nd (for 4 days).
^ incorrect, Rogers, Fido, Bell & Virgin do charge you for 30 days, you can fight the charge with Rogers & Fido if you are porting your number with ccts where with Bell & Virgin you can call in to put a pending port request which is good for 60 days and you can port your number out on the 31st day. Telus Mobility/Koodo is the only National Provider that bills you up until the end date of your billing cycle.
this is really a scam and should be legislated against
Rogers/Fido is the biggest scammer here. They actually think that regardless of how much notice you give them for porting out, it's acceptable to bill you for 30 days of service that you cannot use. I really don't understand how the CCTS allows them to get away with this. It really should be criminal. Then again, what should one expect from the purveyor of the bogus GRRF.
My mother had internet with Bell and they couldn't get it to work right ! She finally called and cancelled ! They said they needed 30 days notice!
My mother refused to pay as you don't have to pay for something they cannot provide!
The difference here is they are providing the service.
I agree it's a sham but just give 30 days notice before you port! That way you really don't lose you just have to wait!

That does not work with Rogers/Fido. They differentiate between porting out and cancellation. You *can* give 30 days notice to cancel and thus not get billed for dead service. However, you lose your phone #. If you try to give 30 days notice of porting out, they won't accept it. They will tell you that you'll be billed for 30 days of dead service from the moment your # ports out. You can argue with them and you might get someone who will provide a work-around for you, but the official policy is to bill you for 30 days of service from the moment the # ports out - i.e. the official policy for porting out (not cancellation) is to bill you for 30 days of service you cannot use regardless of how much notice you provide. Like I said, it should be criminal.
That policy would never stand up in court!
They can require 30 days notice but they must provide service to you.
As long as you aren't on a CC pay system I wouldn't pay!
As you said it's criminal!

My understanding is that a CCTS complaint will usually quickly result in the correct thing being done. Having said that, it speaks volumes of the current system that this is an ongoing issue.
