I have a Nexus S that I am trying to get to work on Bell. I can see the Bell and Rogers Wireless under my Network Operators section with the Bell SIMM card in it. However when I click on Bell I get an error that says "Your SIMM card does not allow a connection to this network."
This SIMM card works fine in my Motorola Atrix. I have also tried a 3rd Bell SIMM card from another persons working phone in this Nexus S with no joy.
After speaking to Bell numerous times as far as I can tell they have my IMEI on a black list of some sort.
I can put a Rogers SIMM card into this Nexus S and it works fine. The thought went through my mind to reflash my radio with one I know is compatible with them. But im thinking that since I can see both networks listed in my network operators section that I am actually receiving on their 1800-1900 mhz.
I am at a loss of what to try next. Questions comments and thoughts. Trying hard not to switch my personal cell phone service to Rogers. havent tried telus yet because I don't know anyone with their service so I can test with their SIMM card.
How did you come by this Nexus S? Did you pick it up in a Bell store? Craigslist? eBay?
Also, it might be possible that the Nexus S doesn't have the correct frequencies to work on Bell (therefore no Virgin or Telus either). I can't say for sure if it does or not since I don't have one, nor do I know what is inside it (so no smart a** comments from those that DO know please... )
Regarding the operating bands and modes, Nexus S does have 2 variants: the one that works with the Big-3, i.e. Rogers, TELUS and Bell, does not work with the newer carriers like WIND, Mobilicity, Videotron. Rogers has got both GSM and UMTS networks in the 850 and 1900MHz while Bell and TELUS have got the UMTS network in 850 and 1900MHz bands. To correctly identify the variant this Nexus S, tell us the Model / FCC ID / IC cert number on the label in the battery silo. Pull out the battery, you should find the numbers like A3LGTI9020A...
If this Nexus S is the variant that works with WIND, Mobilicity and Videotron in the AWS band, you cannot simply flash the firmware and expect it will magically work on Rogers, TELUS and Bell becuase both variants have different required baseband components for different bands.
However, the most important issue is the origin of this unit of Nexus S you have got: if it would work with a Rogers (both 2G and 3G?) but just not any Bell SIM, AND Bell has told you the IMEI of this Nexus S has been blacklisted, the I am afraid this Nexus S is a stolen handset.

Is this true that a imei can be blacklisted (due to theft or whatever) from just one network carrier? In the case of a theft would it not be blacklisted from all carriers networks. Seams pointless if it was only blocked from on network, but I guess all carriers would have to work together on this. Just found this interesting.
As for your Nexus S issue if it works for rogers you have the right model phone that will work with Bell. I don't think the wind (aws) version can do GSM (2G). Do you get a signal with the bell sim or able to send SMS? You could also try and play with a setting by entering *#*#4630#*#* then pick phone info and set preferred network type to GSM/cdma auto (prl) then reboot the phone.

dxintel,
Greetings.
1. Of course, loss prevention is only limited to the originating carrier, not necessarily sharing blacklist among others. Manufacturers like Apple has its own blacklist but likely for its inventory loss prevention, e.g. someone breaks into their warehouse. WorldIRC has shared this story... http://www.thestar.com/business/arti...-stolen-phones Apple's policy is not to intervene once the iPhone has gone out of their doors.
2. Picking, toggle whichever bands or modes is moot if it is not intended for the OP's own usage on Bell, which this Nexus S has been blacklisted by Bell.

awebber,
WIND DOES roam on the Rogers' GSM network wherever is needed i.e. in the "WIND Away" zone, regardless of whichever variant (with or without the AWS band support).
Not sure if their roaming agreement would include Rogers' UMTS and/or LTE network (not likely though).
Thanks, I thought it was Rogers. TMO in the US? That 25c/min price is tempting vs. Rogers though I have TMo phones on 10c/min so not as important (I know this is getting way off topic for this forum so I should stop now .
It is likely a Wind Mobile version. It will work on Rogers EDGE speeds but not 3G. Bell has no gsm EDGE service. I have a Galaxy Nexus and when I select 2G networks only it will not connect to Bell.
Look at the Bbaseband. If it starts with 9020T is for Windmobile. If its 9020A it's for Bell (3G only)/Rogers (2G/3G)
If it works with Rogers on 3g then it's compatible
If it works with Rogers on 2G (Edge) then it's a AWS, Wind/ Mobilicity it will not work
