    Question Fido cancelation fee

    Hi,

I want to cancel my contract with fido.
I live in Quebec but my contract was before the bill pass.

I was told by a CSR that it will cost me 10$ by month left(less than 6 month left) with an minimum of 100$, is that minimum true?

What if I renew my contract get a phone and cancel, how will the cancellation work then?

    Thank

The CSR has no reason to lie to and the amount quoted isn't outrageously high, so I expect it is correct. Sounds right anyway.

If you renew now, get a phone and cancel immediately, you will repay the full subsidy on the handset and maybe the $50 termination fee (not sure about that).

I'm fine with paying full price for a smart phone, I have to spend those fido dollar before I leave.
So it may be actually cheaper to just renew and cancel.

If I renew, I'll be under bill 60. From what I understand, it will cost me the price difference on the phone I get (490 for iphone 4S) or 50$ if I don't get a phone.

50$ is less than 100$ and if get a phone, it basically free to get out of the contract.

I found this thread on redflagdeal, someone have done something similar with Roger to get out of contract.

If I'm wrong please correct me.

Your forgetting 1 other point your iphone 4s will be forever locked to fido, unless you can totally twist there arm to unlock it.

    Hmm you are right,

What if I buy out the contract, paid all the penalty fee (490), paid 50 for the unlock.

then you'd be fine. you would have to pay your ecf/decf before you cancel, though. as in, call in to break the contract and pay the ecf in order to renew. once the ecf is charged and paid (which you could do on the initial call) then you could be transferred to the unlock team, charged the $50 and get the phone unlocked.

When I called FIDO last month and tried to unlock my iphone 3gs, they said I had to complete the contract in another 8 months to get it unlocked, and cancelling my contract service doesn't qualify for the unlocking. So basically I just bought a iphone 4s from apple and ported my number to another provider, I had enough of there BS and gave away my lock iphone 3gs. Well I hope you won't have the same problems.

You can pay ECF to complete contract and be eligible. Someone pulled their head out of their *** and realized saying completing one's term and paying the ECF were legally the same. So, good move for Rogers/Fido.
