It's either a flaw in the Android YouTube app or Mobilicity is screwing with the streams.

Edit: To be fair, I don't really know if the Toronto network is fine. It might suck in other aspects besides raw speed test results. For example, I get ~300ms ping to the closest speedtest.net server. It wouldn't surprise me if I also have high packet loss, though I haven't checked. That would explain the YouTube problems.

Can you check by playing youtube from the BROWSER and not the youtube app?

    xtachx,

St. Peter, John and Matthew! That is what I have been telling you more than once... YouTube Mobile environment - mobile app, or mobile browser without any User Agent manipulation - streams video at 350kbps typically, sir YouTube specification on those H.263 .FLV (format 6) and H.264 .FLV (format 35) videos are streaming at no more than 1Mbps. Please do not ask me to cite the source because you can find it on yourself.

SPB TV is a mobile app available to the Android, Symbian handsets which has got many different channels including NASA TV. This is what I have told you about, pick a channel e.g. NASA TV.It cannot play as long as on Mobilicity. The NASA mobile app do have streaming feeds. However, the issue is not about NASA TV but the CRIPPLED FUNCTIONALITY of many streaming video apps like SPB TV - which has got more than just NASA TV channel but many others like France24, DW-TV, NHK World, etc. Certain ports and/or protocols have been blocked by Mobilicity. These are not abusive usage and we are not watching it 24/7/365... This is what TelecomZombie and I have been observed. Suddenly it stops working a few weeks ago.

It is all fair for you to ask but I ask you to just take our observations seriously. It is a two way street. We deserve the same level of respect.

Lags in the browser too. Also, after watching a few 4-minute YouTube videos... I seem to have been throttled by Mobilicity?! Hahahah this has never happened before. Speed tests now show 0.05Mbit/s! That's what I get for 15 minutes of laggy YouTube!

This is pretty bizarre. I've read about them throttling people, but for 15 minutes of YouTube at 3AM?! ****.

SPB TV doesnt even play on my wifi. All I wanted to do was test it as well. Thats why I asked if there is a nasa TV app. I found one and it played fine, but it is not 350 kBit/sec. So, is there anything which can play at 350kBit/sec other than SPB?

    TZ,

You know, one good thing out of the whole leaning experience is that Mobilicity would tell you Sandvine as one of its tech vendors. So it is quite transparent to us than my comrades in the motherland. At least, we are not under house arrest for our abusive behaviour and you leave before they kick you out.

    xtachx,

It is unfortunate that you have to seek the truth in your own terms i.e. things does / does not work for you so it becomes verified / unverified even others cannot / can. It is unfortunate for those "minority" who should have compromised. It is clearly not your problem, not a problem "primarily" to most others and not my problem either. It is no longer a problem to TZ now because he has chosen to leave. Thank you for your efforts even it is late hours. Good night

I can also confirm that SPB TV is being blocked specificially by Mobilicity. It works fine for me using my HTC Panache on Wi-Fi, with a WIND sim card, with a Rogers sim card (although at edge speeds), but will not work at all using a Mobilicity sim card. I also confirmed the same affecting only Mobilicity service using a Nokia N8. SPB provides really low quality video so it's a little bit surprising that it doesn't work at all on Mobilicity. Port blocking and throttling is an important issue and I'm shocked that Mobilicity hasn't addressed the customers about this.

For me, Youtube on Mobilicity always worked fine and at full speed up to 360p. Any higher than that, the video throttling kicked in, reducing it to the same speed as HD videos from movie and tv station websites. Let's remember that this isn't a case of higher resolution videos lagging because of the high bit rate. Mobilicity is actually choking the bandwidth pipe so that maximum speed that you can achieve is drastically reduced. The video throttle doesn't appear to have anything to do with file size as I can watch a 2 hour long video on Veetle (standard/low resolution) and it will run at full speed, but a 5 minute high resolution video does get throttled. Veetle HD comes to a crawl. Mobilicity might be using software to examine the bitrate of the flash videos being downloaded.

I've noticed that the Mobilicity forum has become increasingly negative, with comments even coming from some long time Mobilicity customers and former customers (including sometimes from myself, admittedly), some of whom at one time swore by Mobilicity being excellent. Is everything about Mobilicity awful? - of course not. Mobilicity's plans are fantasticly priced for those not wanting to pay much for service. I found the voice call sound quality and reliability to be second-to-none in my area. However, Mobilicity has encountered some serious issues and to the public eye, appears to be doing nothing about it (whether that is true or not) and has kept disturbingly quiet, with improvements in the network happening very slowly. I believe that the reason some customers are leaving now is because of Mobilicity's 2011 "year of densifications" claims/promises. Even if people who are now criticizing Mobilicity are over-emphasizing the company's faults, and even if it is being done unfairly, the attitude/atmosphere/satisfaction level of the general subscriber base appears to be getting worse. When that happens, it would appear that Mobilicity has an image problem.

So should you have a business don't be cheap, be smart otherwise you are a fake one, no offense!
I am sorry, but this is the most Wrong post i have ever heard!
I know many companies including mine that use Wind as their provider and are extremely happy and are in no way Their vehicle line ups include BMW's 750, 535, And volovo s80.
