New Page Plus Customer - Deciding which Smartphone to buy
Hi everyone!
I can't believe it's taken me so long to find out about page plus, it sounds fantastic.
I am trying to search for a smartphone to use with the basic plan ($30 a year) I was about to buy the Palm Pixi Plus since it's so cheap but I also want my phone to be able to make Voice-over-IP calls when I am in range of a Wifi network (which is almost always since I'm either at home or at work most of the day) I would also call Page plus and completely cancel any data usage to make sure I don't use my balance on data since I have no need for it.
Unfortunately there seems to be no app at the current time for the Palm Pixi Plus (using WebOs) that allows me to make free WIFI calls. (And since WebOs is being discontinued I don't think there will be in the future either) Android users are lucky enough to be able to use an app called "GrooveIP" which connects via WIFI and allows users to make free google voice calls to any landline in the USA. I currently use that service with my gmail on my computer all the time and I love it. That would be awesome to be able to use from my cell phone as well when I have a WIFI signal.
Therefore, I was looking at the HTC Droid Eris and the Motorola Droid (both verizon phones) in order to get android and be able to use this app.
It seems almost silly to me to have to buy an android phone to just be able to use a particular app but I see no other options.
What do you guys think? Are those 2 android phones good for page plus? Any other recommendations?
What plan "$30 per year" you want to use? I dont know nothing about this?
I think android phone is BEST choice. Eris is not to "smooth" phone - i dont like it. I suggest droid 1 (if you like real keyboard) - much nicer in my opinion. Bust best (in my opinion) price/quality are: droid x (huge screen - 4.3") or HTC Incredible (little smaller 3.7" - i like this size).
Well, I would do the $10 refill for 100 minutes ( which has a 120 day expiration so that would be 3 refills per year = $30)
I am mostly buying the phone to use the WIFI voice-over-ip.
I'm trying to keep the cost as low as possible so that's why I was looking at the Droid Eris and the Motorola Droid (both are about $100 to $120 on amazon). Also, is it possible to update the version of Android if you have a phone on Page Plus? Now I'm worried the app I want to use won't work on these if I can't update the version of Android they use.
ok. sorry. I understand about plan.
You should try to check ebay and craigslist often.
I bought (about 2 months ago) droid x from eaby (in great shape) for about $110.

There is an effort to build a SIP client for WEBOS.. I believe the name of the app, or project is LINPHONE. but it is noway near easy to use.
I did hear old windows phones, like Samsung Omnia, have built-in SIP client.. Obvoiusly, Android phone will work fine, also...
But, if you are at home or office most of the time, why not just get a free software on your laptop or tablet, instead of getting a phone?
Stay away from the Droid Eris! Any other Droid phone within your budget should be nice. Look for pre-owned and good conditioned droid phones from reputable sellers. I recently ordered a pre-owned Motorola Droid 2 (a955) online in fair condition for $55 total! I can't wait to check it out :-)
I put my mom on the same $30 plan a year with PPC and she loves it. She has a simple flip phone (Motorola W755) and is one of the few human beings on earth to use a landline. She's home most of the time (she's 60 years old) but is happy to have a cellphone with her when she leaves the house. (If only she kept that cellphone ON so i can reach her instead of her turning it on only to make calls, LoL!).

Ha. I am another one, as are my parents, my sister, my brother, every single one of my co-workers, and my friends. Not sure why you think landlines are no longer used...they very much are! If I lose power, and have no way to charge my cell phone, I have a landline...and that line NEVER, I mean NEVER, goes down. I can always count on it. My cell? Not so much.
Don't get either phone. Get something newer. Droid2, Droid Incredible, DroidX. The eris is old and not updated with current software, and the Droid1 is kinda slow.
First - Congratulations on finding out about the best deal available in the cell phone industry - Page Plus.
I am not a dealer. I am a very, very satisfied customer. I have been using PP for several years. You can not beat Verizon's network.
Second - several months ago, I purchased a Droid X on Ebay. I have found the phone to be great. No problems what so ever. Good luck.
I am on America's Largest and Most Reliable Wireless Network. Thank you Page Plus.
