    Nokia s60 phones & GSM/UMTS compatibility

Finally broke my Nokia N95 and decided to look for a replacement with comparable features. In the interest of saving money, I'm hoping to buy a newer S60v3 online but I'm not sure which phones will be compatible with US 3G/4G networks.

The HoFo wiki lists these frequencies for T-Mobile USA:
    GSM: 1900 MHz
    UMTS: 1700/2100 MHz

Does anyone have experience with either of these devices on T-Mobile? Will I be able to use HSPA?

    Nokia C5-00
    GSM: 850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz
    UMTS: 900, 2100 MHz

    Nokia 6720 Classic
    GSM: 850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz
    UMTS: 850, 1900, 2100 MHz

(Also, feel free to tell me I'm being silly and that I should just save up my pennies for a big crazy Android phone.)

The 2100 you see listed in the specs in those phones is the European band.

You need to look for a device with UMTS 1700.

The Nokia Nuron and the Nokia E73 have that frequency.

Go here and filter on 1700 and it will bring up the T-Mobile 3G compatible phones:

As you can see very few S60 phones, but most of the symbian^3 phones have them.

Tmobile 3G requires both 1700 Mhz and 2100 Mhz frequencies. This is also referred to as AWS. The AWS band uses frequencies in two segments: 1700 MHz for uplink, and 2100 MHz for downlink.

I believe that the N9 is quad-band GSM and five-band UMTS. At least it is supposed to have AWS.

I've been leaning on N8 myself, but waiting to see if anything good happened at CES.

i decided against investing in a device as expensive as the N8 until after the CES announcements. for the meantime, i purchased a slightly used c7 off of ebay with all original packaging for ~150$US. there are a number of similarly priced devices still on there if others are looking (including a strange one with an detachable external speaker included!)

Were you aware Amazon had the N8 in all colors for $200 right on Black Friday? I'm kinda regretting not getting one then. I've browsed several used in the $250-300 range but am hoping Amazon will do another sale on them to clear them out or something, too.

haha i know! i was still a happy N95-3 user back then. i saw a couple N8s for ~260$ but i really wanted to keep this under 175$. i'm expecting another big shakeup of the legacy/used phone market post-CES so if i don't like the C7, i'm sure there will be more options in a month.

I loved my N8 when I previously used it; I only gave it up when I moved to Android.

If you see a price like that again, how about posting the link here?

I have been using a Nokia E90 since I discovered this phone existed and I love it. Now AT&T is telling me that the phone will cease to work at the end of 2016 so I have been investigating what to get instead. So.. I need a phone that AT&T will agree is 3G (according to everything I read my phone is 3G just not AT&T compatible 3G) and I am _really_ hoping to get S60 because I have several apps I use and am hoping to continue to be able to do so. Additionally if at all possible i'd like a t9 keyboard not a touch screen or qwerty if I can possibly find it. so I guess first question would be does anyone know of any Nokia S60 phones that AT&T would consider 3G?
