Today I drove from West Palm Beach to Ft. Myers via State road 80.
Last time I did this was about 6 months ago, after Belle Glade 3G would cut out until you get to Labelle then it would cut out until you reached Lee County. Today's trip ended in the outskirts of Ft Myers and i seemed to have 3G pretty much the entire way, there was a few minute drop while it switched in one spot, but i was surprised to see how much the 3G has increased.
Two months ago I drove from Vero Beach to Tampa and noticed more 3G along route 60 though not complete like on today's ride..
They seem to have restarted 3g/4g coverage expansion around 4 or 5 months ago around here. Around the time the doj filed its lawsuit. probably didn't want to wait for full denial and just started anyway. I have a feeling if the at&t merger went a lot smoother, we wouldn't be seeing any of this improved coverage.
Boulder City, NV got 4G coverage and its much better than Verizon's 3G. They did some backhaul improvements since i was last over that way. In the city they have moved to upgrading EDGE towers to UMTS/HSPA

2 or 3 months ago drove Miami to Orlando on Fl. Turnpike. I was surprised there were low signal and actually a couple dead spots. As I recall, strong signal most of the way but then Pandora would drop out. Can't recall the areas.
Service around the Miami area has been excellent the last few years.
GoogleVoice (domestic call forwarding and cheap intl. calls)
VoiceStick (For forwarding overseas)
3 T-Mobile lines on unlimited "family" plan - me, wife, partner. Averages out to be $44/line unlimited voice + $20 each for 2 BB pkgs. + $25 for 3rd BB +$5 for 400SMS on one line. [Remember 45 cents/min local calls?)
Last month I drove from Fort Lauderdale, FL to Avon Park, FL, taking US27 most of the way. I'd say at least half the trip my phone was stuck on "Searching..." for signal. Even in areas of Avon Park, a decent size city, no coverage. No roaming either..

Yesterday I was at the subway around the corner from my house, when i first got 9780 blackberry it would show 3G but the minute you walked int he store it would go to EDGE and stay there, now its full bars all the way inside the store.. Also outside of my house when it gets of UMA it starts picking 3G up where it used to only kick in at the corner of the street (here in west palm beach florida)
I live in West Palm and take the tri-rail to Davie I get great coverage. When I get to NOVA I do not get signals in some of the buildings. It also happens alot in most hospitals I go to. I do not know if it is signal penetration in builds or what? I just got a 3G phone again so I will try it down there.
the reason you don't get the coverage in those buildings is probably because they are made of poured concerete or something else to withstand the winds and so on..
I am not sure why people expect to have coverage inside hospitals and other fortified buildings (plus i dont think you can use cell phones in a hospital to begin with).
I know everyone expects T-Mobile to be really bad in the south, and a lot of people from other places not in the South who don't know think it should be.
But does nobody remember T-Mobile originated as a SOUTHERN phone company ...
LOL Powertel PCS was started IN the south FOR the South
