Back office told me I can't port my TekSavvy number to Wind?

I currently have a TekSavvy landline number. They are a Bell reseller, so my number is essentially a Bell POTS line.

When I signed up for a new account, I listed the number as a Bell number because TSI was not one of the options in the account signup form the rep was entering.

Now it's been over a week, and I finally managed to get through to the back office, only to hear this.

Does this sound correct? Surely Wind can port a Bell POTS line over to them.

Any ideas on what I can do?

Well if they can't do it, they can't do it...

I don't think I've ever heard of anyone porting a landline to mobile (I'm not saying it's not done, just that I've never heard of it being done).

    Is it even possible?

I think it IS possible. But I think its a longer, more complicated process than mobile to mobile. In this case I'd try porting to a big 3 prepaid, since they may have the process more streamlined, and then from there to WIND. But that's just my guess.

You can port any number anywhere. That's the rules. I have ported a landline to mobile and vice versa. Here's what I suggest you do. If you really want that number, port it to a Rogers prepaid phone, bell or someother main company.... Then port it to Wind.

I've done that before when they have told me that.

Thanks. I may have to do that. I hope I don't miss the HMP in that time.

It's done all the time. Landline to mobile often takes a couple of weeks to complete.

Also, Wind/Teksavvy don't have a choice. They have to allow it. The rules are mandated, insofar as certain conditions are met (both companies providing service in that area, etc.). If it really can't be done on Wind's end, they probbly aren't in compliance with the porting rules. However, Wind can refuse to provide service (don't have to allow someone to be a customer).

+1. I can confirm that it is doable. Maybe Wind can't do it but it can be done. Worse case, do it through one of the big carriers that have experience with handling land lines. Then port from mobile to mobile.

That's my frustration. How can I push Wind to do this? I am running into idiot CSRs and even back office people who don't have a clue. I could port to another carrier, then to Wind, but that's a hassle I want to avoid, if I can.

Are there any options I have with Wind directly?

I had it done for my father. Takes longer (can't remember the number of days but I think it was 7 business days) but it's doable.

Even though Teksavvy resells Bell service, they provide the service and keep the customer data/number on their in-house systems, not Bell's. Essentially Bell gives them access to the physical line but they have to do everything else and have equipment installed in Bell's CO to do it. Teksavvy very well could be the problem here because they may not have properly implemented a porting system.

Rules are pretty simple as long as the provider you are switching to serves that area, they must allow it. Here is an example where it can't be done. I have a number from Banff Alberta Which is 587-xxx-xxxx and I can not port it to Mobilicity or Wind because they don't serve that area, but I can port it to Telus, Bell, Rogers, etc because they serve that area.

FIDO was porting landline numbers to CityFido years before wireless portability even existed in Canada. Nowadays it's the same process and I port landlines to cellphones quite often, it just takes days instead of hours to happen AND it cannot be a VOIP number.
Your phone explains your sex life!

FIDO: Retention Unlimited North America talk & text (no zones) + 6GB data
WIND: HMP + I35 + AITF laptop (business lines)
    MOBILICITY: BTS (tester line)

Over the past 2 weeks I attempted to port a Vonage number to wind with zero success. Saturday I started a port to bell.prepaid, once completed I will port it from Bell mobility to wind.

Because Fido is considered a CLEC.

That's great to know. Was this from TekSavvy? Or was it a Bell account?
