Problem with T-Mobile Internet in the Los Angeles area today?
I have not been able to get any internet connection on my T-Mobile HD2 today (on the Total Internet plan). I cannot access any web site in any browser, nor access my e-mail through the phone. Well, I can do both of those things if I turn on wi-fi and connect to a wi-fi network (like here at home), but with wifi off, I cannot connect to anything, even though I see the 3G icon at the top.
Are others experiencing this also today (LA area), or is it just me? Any suggestions?
The strange thing is-in that top bar, right now it shows four bars of 3G reception.
Yet, it cannot connect to any web site, nor to any e-mail server.
Does anyone have an idea what might be going on?
Thank you.
Maybe its a problem with the phone? My Nexus One did this all the time. Try going in to a T-Mo store and see if the problem can be replicated on demo phones.
In looking at my connection settings, I finally hit the advanced tab, proxy servers, and found there was a proxy server set. Apparently the phone could not connect through that proxy server, so it could not connect. As soon as I eliminated it, connection problems gone.
What is weird is--I never set that proxy server. Up until a couple days ago, it was not set like that. I never set a proxy server on this phone. (Years ago, when I used to connect without a real internet plan (just T-Zones) , I used to use the T-Mo proxy server. That was before I got this phone though. Also the number set under proxy server did not ring a bell, I do not think it was the T-Mo one.)
So, why would there suddenly be a proxy server set on my phone a couple days ago, when there was none before? (I should mention, that no one else but I has access to this phone.) Has this ever happened to anyone reading? Might my phone be infected with a virus, that set its own proxy server for its own malevolent reasons?
Or, if I put the phone in my pocket and forgot to lock it first (sometimes happens, and on-screen buttons get pushed unintendedly) (for instance, calling the last number called!), could enough screen buttons have been pushed that way to get to the menu (Windows 6.5 with Sense) (stock HD2 ROM, I think the latest) for setting up a proxy server, and entered several numbers and clicked OK?? Could all that have happened from putting the phone in my pocket without locking it first?
A few days ago it happened again. I couldn't make any Internet connection at all, although the phone showed 3G. So this time I checked proxy, and again a proxy server was set up, which I never set up. And I think the same number as the other time! (I should have notated it.)
What is going on? Is there a mobile virus now that tries to connect through a proxy server?
